:Reminder:

“You know what you have to do.” And with that he hung up. I closed my phone and placed it in my pocket after checking the time. It was four in the morning. I needed to get some sleep. But I had no money to buy a hotel room. I kept walking with confidence because I knew that the prostitutes won’t be out this late. I sighed and felt the weight of the  last week weigh down on me. I couldn’t believe I found her so quickly. I was smiling from ear to ear when I finally figured out what he meant by ‘You know what you have to do.’ I frowned when it dawned on me. I couldn’t do that. My frown deepened and my chest ached when the thought ran through my head on repeat. I can’t do it.

I have to break them up and I have to win her heart.

Cara’s POV:

I kept running. I don’t know where I was running to but it felt good to run. I ran until I felt my lungs start to burn and legs start to cramp, but I kept running. The tall grass tickled my legs under the hem of my dress while my hair was flailing behind me. The air smelled crisp but it was warm. I looked over to my right and saw horses running with me. Black and white mustangs. I smiled and turned my head forwards again. Just then there was a huge tree in front of me. I stopped running so fast that I fell on my butt. The horses trotted around me slowly. I shook my head and stood up. The grass under my feet made my toes curl. Nice and springy. I caught glimpses of the tree between the horses and noticed a figure standing there. I walked to the horses and touched one. It ran away and the others followed. My eyes looked after them and I lifted my hand slightly to wave after them. I looked back at the tree and the figure was still there. I sighed and started to walk over to it. It didn’t take long. Actually it took less time than running would have. As I was walking I was catching my breath. The person had their back turned to me. I felt the wind blow my hair around.

I took several hesitant steps forward waiting for something bad to happen. The hairs on the back of my neck started to prick up and I felt goosebumps form on my arms. I rubbed my hands over my arms trying to warm them from the now cold air. I saw my breath come out in little white puffs in front of me.

I finally reached the edge of the tree and touched my fingertips to it. The bark instantly turned to ice and engulfed my entire hand. I tried to pull it away but it hurt to move. I stood still while the figure next to the tree started to speak.

“Why have you come here?” I looked from the ice around my hand to the meadow that I had just come from. I tried wiggling my fingers slightly to warm the ice but it seemed to get colder and harder.

“I don’t know where ‘here’ is.” The figure turned around and I almost screamed. He had no eyes. All I could see was black holes.

            “This is your death.”

I woke up in a cold sweat and started crying when I realized that Maria wasn’t here. She was in the hospital.

I grabbed a pillow and hugged it to me while I was still sobbing. I glanced over at my clock at saw that it was 2:15 am.
