:Reminder:
"What is happening?" I felt my leg become extremely wet. I moved my head around to look at my thigh. There was a chunk missing from my right thigh. The woman looked down at my leg and screamed something at the other paramedics. she put her hands on my thigh trying to squelch the bleeding. i put my head back but kept an eye on her. i looked at her blue jumpsuit, the name said Greene. that is when I first met maria. i just wished it was on better circimstances.
Cara's POV:
I leg was on fire. I couldn't shake the pain. As I reached for my glass, my hand wouldn't stop shaking. Maria glanced over and she went back into nurse mode. Even though she's been out of the paramedic field ever since six months ago. Her hands flew into the air between us.
'What is wrong.'
'It is my leg. But I am fine.' She looked skeptical.
'Do you want to go home?' I shook my head.
'I just need somehing cold to drink.' Maria then lightly tapped Gina on the leg with her foot. Gina looked over and saw me sweating.
'What is wrong?' Maria had to slow down for her.
'Cara's leg is acting up. Will you go get her a cold drink please?' Gina nodded and Quinn looked concerned.
'Are you alright?' I nodded my head and stared at the table space in front of me. Trying to get my mind off the pain. My fingers drummed on the table top. My mind throwing me back into the world where the pain was unbearable and now.
The paramedics carefully picked me up and placed me on the stretcher. Greene was steadily by my side. She kept trying to talk to me, but I couldn't hear her. I was waiting for my hearing to come back but it didn't. Greene took a seat next to me in the ambulance and kept her hand in mine. The last thing I saw before I passed out was her eyes on mine.
A few days later, I woke up with a terrible headache and when I tried to move my leg a blast of pain shot through me. I tried to call out, but I didn't hear it. I knew I screamed because now my throat is straining and burning. Several nurses came in quickly, their mouths moving but no words reached me. I tried to talk but I didn't know what I was saying. I was starting to panic. Touching my throat, trying to get away. My eyes shot to the door that the nurses entered through. I lurched for that exit, but as I did someone shot me with a needle. the last thing I knew was I was being held down by two men and the women nurses were looking at me with concerned eyes. Everything went dim and then I dreamed.
My leg was still on fire. Someone, probably Gina, placed a glass of ice water in front of me. Maria urged me to drink. I took one sip and settled down a little bit. My hands stopped shaking so badly and I could actually hold my cup of water without spilling it all over the table. Maria nudged my arm. I glanced at her and raised my eyebrow.
'Are you okay?' Her nimble fingers were so sure. I nodded my head and held up my finger indicating I needed a minute. She nodded and went on talking to Gina about this Saturday. About what she's going to wear and what time they should have lunch tomorrow. I glanced up at Quinn and he was the one to raise his brow.
'I am fine. I just wish I could remember to take my medication in the morning.' I don't even remember when he made the effort to learn sign language, but he did it anyway.
'Are you sure?'
'Yeah. I am fine. This happens often. Even when I do not take my meds.' He slightly smiled and signed slowly.
'Text me.' Now that is the form of communication that I can deal with. I took out my phone and started to text him.
'Heyy wat u want 2 tlk bout'
'i want 2 no wen u want me 2 pik u up 4 2mmr'

'oh not wit dat'
'haha i got u' This went on for about twenty minutes until Gina looked over real quick after my silent laughter. She tapped the table to get my attention.
'I just heard you laugh!' I stopped smiling and signed.
'I can't laugh. You heard wrong.'
'No I really heard you laugh.' Maria looked from the two of us and looked confused. Then she jumpped into the conversation.
'That is one sign that your hearing is coming back!' I shook my head.
'It's not possible, Maria. I can't get it back. You said so yourself.'
'I read it in one of my nursing portfolios that I had to go over. If you can speak, then that means your sense of hearing is coming back.' I shook my head again and finished the water. Can that be true? That I'm getting my hearing back? I mean that would be great, but then Maria is still deaf and she will never get her hearing back. Ever. I can't let my self believe that my hearing will come back. It has been gone for over three years or so now. I can't let myself get my hopes up for nothing when they will soon be crushed when I find out that I definally can't hear. I sighed inward.
