Bridges

An: Santana cheated on Dani during a trip to Ohio, and Dani's entire world fell apart, the only time she felt at peace was at the bridge.

Dani always found sanctuary in the strangest of places, when she lived back in Atlanta it was always the hollow tree in the park near her house where she hid all the things that destroyed her. Be it the cigarettes, the weed, anything that made her feel a little bit of relief. But when she moved to New York her sanctuary had to change. The first time she felt over whelmed by not only the city but her life in general whilst living in New York she went on a walk and explored the city and after hours of walking she finally found peace, and found her sanctuary, there was a spot just by the water under queensboro bridge that was a close enough walk from her apartment that allowed her to clear her head, and just focus on the city around her.

Ever since that day, whenever Dani felt like things were a little too much or she felt the need to run, this is where she came. Tonight was no different, it had been a month since she'd last seen Santana. A month since they broke up. That night replayed in Dani's mind over and over, but it never seemed to make sense to her. She wished she could have changed what she said, she wished that she hadn't let Santana go, she wished that she didn't have to have her heart shattered all because of a stupid fucking trip.

|| Santana's loft||

Dani had just finished her shift in the diner and she knew that Santana would be back from Lima and she couldn't wait to see her and hear about her trip. As she let herself into the loft she smiled to herself at the sound of silence, this meant that Santana's room mates weren't home and the couple had the loft to themselves.

"Babe? It's me. I finished work and I wanted to see you after your trip." Dani called out as she took off her coat and put it over a chair.

"I'm in the living room." Santana replied from the sofa where Dani found her, a soft smile spread on her face as she stood up to hug the shorter girl.

"I missed you so much." Dani sighed into her girlfriends shoulder as she took her scent in.

"I missed you too." The brunette replied as she stroked Dani's head.

Once they pulled away Dani fell back onto the couch with a content sigh as she slipped into Santana's arms where she found herself playing with the taller girls fingers, before Santana pulled her close and enveloped them in a chaste kiss, Dani should have known something was wrong just from the way Santana had kissed her, she couldn't describe it in a way other than it just wasn't... Right.

"How was the trip?" She asked.

"It was good to see everyone, I don't miss high school but those people are family, I'll always miss them." Santana replied with her head resting on Dani's.

"That's good, they seem like such nice people San." Dani smiled truthfully.

"They sure are.." Santana trailed off making Dani look up at her, a puzzled look spread across her face.

"Are you okay San, something seems off with you?" Dani asked with concern lacing her words.

"I just- I have to tell you something." Santana stuttered as she gently pushed Dani up off of her.

"Santana, you're scaring me." Dani spoke as she anxiously played with her hands, whilst playing through all the worst case scenarios in her head.

"When I was in Lima, I saw Brittany, my ex. And it was good to see her and to catch up, but before I knew it, one thing led to another and" Santana said before putting her head in her hands.

"Santana just tell me, did you cheat on me?" Dani asked surprisingly calm considering.

When the only response Santana gave her was a sigh and a nod, that was all it took before Dani let out a strangled sob as she stood up and began pacing the floors of the loft.
