*Rory's POV*
I have always wondered what the meaning to life was. Why are we doing all this hard work to just die in the end? We all just die. What's the point? These end dates and important issues fly past you but for what? You have no purpose on this earth. You just live on then die. It always ends with death. I don't see why though! This frustrates me to no end. Why do I have to survive though this hell on earth? These issues and problems that arise out of nowhere, why must I overcome them? There is nothing for a reward, no finish line. It's like reaching the end of the rainbow and finding only darkness, the shade that forms all colors. At the end there is only death. So must we look for something better? There is nothing. Absolutely nothing.
"What are you doing?" A voice called from behind me.
Jumping slightly, I turned in my seat to look at the voice. "You scared me!"
He just smiled and sat down next to me. "You are so jumpy."
Rolling my eyes, I twisted once again in my seat and faced the window. Rain poured down it and onto the cracked cement below.
"We've got to go." He said looking over at me through the corner of his eye. He was also memorized by the rain droplets that flowed down the glass.
Leaning my head against the cold window, I sighed. "I know." Rubbing my hands together, I got up from my seat and started walking to the exit.
"You coming?" I called over my shoulder to him.
His gaze glanced over at me quickly before he nodded and stood.
I grabbed all my things and followed everyone outside. The rain poured down harder, like it was trying to tell us to turn around.
Walking behind the group, I stared down at the ground. It was broken and mud covered every inch. Throwing my legs back and forth in a lazy matter, I jumped over the cracks. Humming quietly I ran over to the next one and skipped over the line.
Looking up quickly I gasped before trying to stop myself. Heading toward a garbage can, I yelped before I hit it.
It crashed down to the pavement. Making a loud clinging noise. The others whipped their heads around to me.
"I'm sorry." I mouthed, my shoulders tense while I waited for any zombies to appear.
There was a loud, booming noise from a few blocks down. That noise alone, was enough for everyone to book it around the corner and into another street.
We skidded around what once was intersections and jumped over crashed cars. The zombies had caught up to us quite a bit but we still had some distance between them.
The gates arose from the horizon and we all sighed in relief. Waving our hands around in pointless motions, we tried to tell them to open the gates. The guards at the top shook their heads and pointed toward the horde of zombies behind us.
Guns were firing at the infected chasing us. They rang in our ears and whizzed across flesh.
"What are we going to do?" I yelled hastily "We can't outrun them forever!"
He stopped in front of a car and loaded his gun. Turning at the rest or us, he nodded slightly ushering us to run.
"I'll distract them, circle around, get rid of them, then met you guys at the gates." He called out to us. Looking over his shoulder he shoot down 3 zombies.
"Go." he commend.
I rammed my shoulder into the car beside him and held my gun up. "I'm coming."
"No you fucking aren't." He replied pushing me towards Chase.
Chase grabbed my hand and pulled me along with him, making me run.
Digging my heels into the ground, I yelled at him, twisting my wrist from Chase's grip.
Turning away from blowing more zombie heads off, he grabbed my face and forced me to look at him.
"Go, I'll met you back around later, just go." He said forcefully. The soldiers guns still taking out the zombies around us while we worked out the plan.
"I can't leave." I screamed at him "You're all I have, don't do this!"
"Don't worry I'll make it back." he replied calmly. "I promise."
"You promise?" I questioned again.
He nodded, tears betraying his words. "I love you lil'sis."
Grabbing my shoulders roughly he pulled me into embrace before handing me over to Chase.
Chase looked over at him, tears filling his eyes as well. "Don't do this." he said quietly.
"I'll be fine." he assured.
Grabbing my hand again, Chase slowly pulled me away from him.
"I love you too." I called back to him "And you better fucking make it back!"
He laughed, wiping away the few tears that trickled out.
We ran towards the slowly opening gates.
Turning my head around I saw him run down an alley, gun firing a thousand times to ensure the zombies followed him.
"Please don't go." I whispered quietly even though he could no longer hear me. "Don't leave me."
