I grabbed my phone off the bedside table, turning off the alarm. Another day. The summer sun peaked through the cracks in the blinds. The bedroom was ridiculously hot. The last few weeks there had been a heat wave, which is rare in Ireland, so the whole country was freaking out. I pulled back the bed covers, grabbing my phone to go down stairs. I didn't have the energy to get dressed yet. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror in the hallway. "ugh" I thought at the sight of my messy blonde hair and blotchy red skin. I padded down the stairs, slowly, one step at a time.

"Good morning lovey!" my Mum beamed at me with over-enthusiasm. I winced as my bare feet came in contact with the cold marble tiles of the kitchen. My Mum handed me a glass of water and two small round tablets.Anti-depressants. "You know, I actually feel pretty good this morning Mum, maybe I don't need these today" I faked a smile. She frowned "That's great that you feel good Cara but you know you need to take these everyday." I rolled my eyes, putting the pills in my mouth and taking a gulp of water, feeling a slight sting in my throat as they went down. "Open" I opened my mouth wide, sticking out my tongue to my Mum. "Now go get some breakfast, your appointment is at 12:30pm."

Taking a bite of my peanut butter on toast, I unlocked my phone seeing I had a text from Adam, my boyfriend of 3 months.

Adam 💓:

sorry babe, cant make lunch today, going out with the lads tonight. promise i'll make it up to u soon x

I wasn't surprised to be honest. He was always cancelling on me. But he likes me. He said so. And he's popular, and everyone thinks we are great together. Everyone loves Adam, so everyone loves me. That's what I like to tell myself.
