"I still can't believe Brendon volunteered to look after Cassie alone tonight, Frank would never do that for me!" My best friend, Jenna says and briefly looks over at me from the driver's seat. I sigh and shake my head, I've already explained this to her so many times in the few hours we've spent together. It's not even that late, it's a little after seven-thirty. Since her birthday, we'd moved her bedtime up to eight. It was summertime, our six year old could stay up a little later and not have to worry about getting up on time for anything.

"Like I said, Jen. Zack came over to help as well. He was really excited about this, he hasn't spent much time with her since the tour finished, and he feels bad about it. We haven't even been gone that long, what's the worst that could happen in three hours? And plus, Cassie's such a good girl. She won't give either of them trouble. He's probably just given her a bath, and he's getting her into her pajamas." Thinking about her in those cute footie pajamas I'd gotten her made my heart hurt slightly. "Are we almost there? I want to help tuck her in."

"Yeah. Five minutes tops. I can't believe Dylan is starting middle school this year, we're so old now!" She laughs, thinking about her own child. "It seemed like he was just starting his first day of pre-k, where did all the time go?" I check my phone for any texts before placing my hand out the window of the car. I let the wind take control of it, moving it up and down with the flow.

"I know, Jen. Soon enough that'll be Cassie. My little baby, growing up so fast. She's already starting first grade, I'm not ready for when she goes off to middle school. I hope she doesn't go through an emo phase like we did. Remember when you tried to dye your hair with Kool-aid and it turned out swamp green instead of purple?" She visibly cringes at the thought, but quickly regains her composure.

"I always told you I'd rock purple hair! Just needed the right dye!" Jenna flips her hair and I burst into laughter. The lilac strands fall off her shoulder and down her back, picking up slightly in the wind. We share more memories from our past, mostly just cringey and awkward ones from middle school. We had some rough times back then, I don't know how my parents allowed me to do half the stuff I did back then.

I see a few lights still lit in the house as we pull up, it's five to eight, so Brendon should be getting Cassie into bed now. I step out of the car and close the door, surprised when Jenna does the same. She runs over to my side and gives me a big hug, and I mimic her embrace.

"We've got to do this again soon, Y/n. It's been way too long." I nod and hug her once more, before she heads back to her door. It's been over a year since we've both been free long enough to have a proper outing. I miss her to death, tonight was really great. I wave at her as she pulls away from the house, and she sticks a hand out the window to wave back. I turn and head towards my front door, making as little noise as possible to not disturb the bedtime ritual.

I'm surprised to hear the TV playing, normally we turned that off so she'd calm down a bit. I walk towards the living room and gasp in shock. The trio all turn to me a shriek, and Brendon tries his best to recover the situation. A creature jumps onto the screen, causing my little girl to scream again. She starts laughing, not understanding the irritated features spreading across my face. I glare at my husband again and he quickly flips of the television. Cassie whines and pouts, telling him to turn it back on. I take a deep breath, trying my hardest to not yell.

"Brendon... are you aware of the time?" He slowly shakes his head and stays silent. Probably for the best right now. I look at the clock hanging above his head and roll my eyes. "It is five after eight. It's past her bedtime. And she hasn't even had her bath yet. Come on, Cas. Why don't you let mommy get you ready for bed while daddy and Uncle Zack stay out here and think about what they've done." I reach out for her hand and she takes it happily. I walk her to the bathroom and sit her on the edge of the tub while I start the water. Cassie starts telling me about what they did while I was gone, and I can feel myself get a bit more annoyed with him.
