Giselle's POV

I sighed. I was home alone, again. My mum was busy with work. Sometime's she was away for weeks.. Sometime's even months. I thought back to what she said to me last night..

FLASHBACK

I was sitting on my bed, looking at an old photo I always kept with me. I don't think my mum knew I had it. If she did, she would probably tell me to burn it. Tears were forming.. The photo was taken at my very very first house I lived in. I was about 6. Next to me was my dad and on the other side was my mum. One big happy family. There was a knock at the door and I quickly slid the photograph under my pillow.

I stood up and opened the door. My mum was standing there, with a medium long rectangular red box with a ribbon wrapped around it.

"You're going away again, arent you ?" I asked her. Whenever she gives me presents, its always a 'I have to go away for a while' or a 'Work is important to me' speech. Without waiting for an answer, I walked back to my bed and sat down.

She slowly followed me and sat herself next to me.

"Giselle.. I know I just got home last tuesday but.." she began.

"Mum, please. I know whats going on and I can handle it. Just cut the speech". I was so annoyed. Yes, she only did come back last tuesday. And she's going off to who knows where again. School starts next week and I'm starting off at a new school that my mum enrolled me in - Roseville High..

I mean, I know I'm in year 9 so I don't need a mother with me to start off at a new school but still, it would be nice to actually see her in the morning and give me some support.

"Well, thanks Giselle. I really couldn't ask for a better daughter. I'm lucky your so understanding" she smiled.

"This is for you, hopefully it will last you for the next eight months" she passed me the box.

"Eight months ?!" I screamed. She's never been away that long ! She can't leave me for that long !

I accepted the box, but just put it down on the bed. I'll open it later..

"Yes, unfortunately. I know I can't leave you here unattended for 8 whole months, so Aunt Carol and her son, Tyson will be staying. They'll get here maybe tomorrow night or the day after" she squeezed my shoulder.

I looked down. The tears I was keeping inside was drowning me. I had to let it out. I just couldn't take it anymore. I sobbed and my mum held me close to her.

"Everything's going to be alright, kiddo" she whispered. She gave me one last squeeze and then stood up. "I'll be leaving early tomorrow morning so I doubt you'll be awake so I guess this is the last time I'll see you in awhile. And dont worry, I'll call you every now and then" she smiled as she pointed to the box. She held my head up and kissed me on the forehead.

"Goodnight, Giselle. I love you" and she shut my bedroom door.

END OF FLASHBACK

I laid down on my bed. Ouch, something pointy dug into my back. I got up and felt around my bed to see what it was. Under the covers was the box my mum gave to me last night. I still hadn't opened it. I undid the ribbon which was tied into a pretty bow. I lifted up the lid and there sat a shiny, brand new black nokia N97 phone. My mouth dropped open. I remember begging my mum to buy me this phone when it came out not long ago. It cost a couple of hundred dollars. I lifted up the phone and there was a fat envelope folded to fit the box underneath it. I took it out and unfolded it. It said Giselle on it in my mum's handwriting. I ripped it open and there was a shitload of cash held together by an elastic-band. I slowly counted the hundred dollar notes, which ended up amounting to $5000.. I looked inside the envelope and there 5 more hundred dollar notes. And another note - written from my mum.
