Max did not like being looked at.
Everywhere he went. People looked at him.
When he pushed a cart in the supermarket, a girl stared at him.
When he picked a bag of apples from another aisle, another girl peeked at him.
When he bent down to tie his shoelaces, he could feel eyes fixed on him.
He decided to keep a low profile.
He wore a hat that covered most of his head. He was short which he was grateful. He wore bland colors. Boring gray or dusty brown or musty yellow.
It didn't work.
His big brown eyes kept attracting people's attention. The adults patted his head and complimented his aunt on his features. They goggled at his eyebrows that they found lovely like a swift stroke of a calligraphy brush. His aunt was not amused.
His classmates were a pain. The boys teased him. The girls kept bugging him. He told his aunt. His aunt was irritated.
They moved.
His aunt must also like keeping a low profile, thought Max .
The same thing happened.
They moved again.
They moved multiple times.
Until finally they moved to a quiet town located near a dense forest.
They settled down for the first time.
