The birds were singing their summer songs, the wind lightly blowing, but not enough to cool off the air attacked by the sun's rage. And then there was me, sitting in the shade provided by the young olive tree. Not much was going on, my brother and father playing football by the pool, my mother trying to feed the crying baby, and me, observing two lizards by the bush.
They seemed to have everything planned out. Simply one way they lived their life. Unlike us, humans, who had to change their ways every day. Education, food, shelter, all these things to worry about.
My gaze lost in the distance, I sat there questioning not the meaning, but the point of life. My brother kicked the ball at me, bringing me back to reality. The ball fell at my feet, scaring the lizards away. I followed them with my eyes, watching them scatter and hide in the bush. I picked up the ball, ready to throw it back to my brother, but as I did, it stopped.
Everything stopped.
I couldn't move a single muscle, my eyes locked on the ball floating mid air. And it wasn't just me, but the others as well. It was as if time itself stopped. I couldn't focus on anything, but then again, who would in a situation like this. And then I saw the most terrifying thing.
A huge slash of lightning hit the ground just a few meters away from me. Thunder ripped the sky, making a sound not suited for human ears. The weirdest events started occurring one after another. The water in the pool froze, ice slowly creeping up the side of it. I felt my body slowly being lifted off the ground, floating in the air just like the ball. Apparently, it wasn't only me. My baby brother was gliding through the air, as well as a few chairs.
Just as I thought things couldn't go any further, plants started pushing through the stone floor. The ground was furiously shaking, and next thing I know, flames erupt in a circle around the lightning struck floor. I would have screamed by now, the fire underneath me and all, but my vocal chords refused. And as if that wasn't enough, the little breeze turned into a full on storm. My hair was whipping around my face, but still, no response from my nerves. To add to this whole terrible situation, droplets of rain fell from the sky, trickling down my face.
There must be a scientific explanation for all of this.
Or at least that's what I would say. But now, while I was cold and warm, wet and dry, grass tickling my feet while I floated above the ground, I wasn't so sure.
How could the pool be frozen next to burning hot flames?
How didn't the rain put an end to those flames?
Why was I unable to do anything!
The sky got darker while a sphere silhouette appeared above us. An eclipse wasn't supposed to happen in another year, so what was this?
I didn't have much time to think about that though. From the silhouette came a blinding light, forcing my eyes shut. And in those three seconds they were closed, I stopped floating, hitting the ground as I fell. Once I opened my eyes, I was met with a completely different picture. The sphere was gone, with all the weird things gone as well. No one else was floating either. Everything was back to normal...
Except there was this cloud of fog right in front of me. I reached for it with my hand, trying to clear it away. But I flinched away the moment the gas touched me, as it slightly burned at my finger. I guess I should back up, the gas was spreading rather quickly. As I did, it slowly started fading away, revealing 12 human shadows. I couldn't believe my eyes, but if up till now all of this could have happened, then why not aliens as well?
And I wasn't wrong, as 12 men, wearing the weirdest clothes stepped out. I was paralyzed by fear, still holding my burnt hand.
I looked over at my mother, protectively holding the baby to her chest. My father pushing my brother behind him, yelled at me to come to him. I just shook my head, tears threatening to spill. One of the black haired men looked at me and slowly started approaching. I bit my lip, trying my best to scootch away, slowly wiggling my feet. The man caught up with no problem, bending down to be at eye level with me. His eyes were such a dark brown they almost looked black. Crouching down on one knee, he reached his hand out. I immediately closed my eyes, waiting for some kind of impact.
But no, no pain.
I opened one eye, looking at the man who gently grabbed my hand. I didn't know whether to be scared or not. He brought my hand to his face, placing a kiss on my burnt finger. I slightly gasped and blushed, watching my finger slowly heal. It was a simple tingling sensation. He looked at me...
And smiled.
He walked away, back into the mist. I sat there, dumbfounded as the 12 men did three weird signs with their hands. They bowed and spoke in unison,
"Hello. We are Exo-M and Exo-K from EXO PLANET!"
