I Have Failed

You take my hand, you drive me into agony.
Pain. Excruciating. Heavy chest.
You demand that I stand up, that I stand straight
For we cannot afford to rest.

I run. I run. I run until I can hardly breathe.
I cannot keep up with your pace.
You say some words to me that seem sincere
while staring at my pale face.

So I run. I run. I run until I am no longer myself.
I watch my colours as they fade.
And your eyes, the ones I know, the ones I trust
Now seem to be a darker shade.

And I run. I run. I run until there's nothing left of me.
Now you must think I'm the best. You smile at me, you lean closer, softly you whisper:
"I'm sorry. You have failed to pass the test."

I have failed.
