Chapter 7: Illusions Delusions
You began to grow conscious of the rhythmic noises your heels made against the tiled flooring. Even the sound of material brush against one another seemed to bother. You had an anxiety for going to new places and meeting new people, so you really weren't in the best of situations when Reid requested that you dropped by at his office.
Eventually, though, you came to the waiting room that the lady at the entrance directed you to. You sent a haste message to Spencer, hoping he wouldn't leave you waiting for too long because you felt the discomfort engulfing you by the second. You came to a stop in the nicely furnished room, acknowledging the presence of a short but stubby man. The first aspect you noticed was how well he wore his facial hair as it emphasized a look of wisdom but style. You grinned at the man briefly which he returned while he finished fixing his cup of coffee. Not a moment later, you lowered your gleam, hoping that conversation would not erupt, but as the man approached you, you knew that was unavoidable. "Hello there," he started, finally joining you by the couches.
"Hi," you smiled again, but this time, the awkwardness seeping through the cracks.
"You don't seem too familiar. You're not an agent, are you?"
You shook your head with a subtle laugh, "No, I'm not. I'm just waiting for a friend."
The man looked at you a little funny, mouth agape as though he was going to say a wicked. "Is this friend by any chance Reid?" From the informality of how he addressed the young man, you expected that he knew your companion well.
"Yes. Yes, he is. You know him?" You asked, though you knew the obvious response.
"I'm sorry— I forgot to introduce myself. I'm David Rossi. I work with Spencer in the behavioral unit." The man beamed, "He was excited to seeing you today, I mean, as exciting as he gets."
You behaved modestly, suppressing the grin that would have inevitably crossed your lips, "Oh, is that so?"
"Yes," Both Rossi and you glanced towards the figure in the doorway. "And you happen to be?"
"(Y/n). I'm a friend of Spencer's." You said with a good extent of uncertainty. "You are Mr. Hotchner? Spencer mentioned a fair bit about you."
The long faced man seemed tensed, but Reid had mentioned that often times he seemed that way. Yet, he was completely fine mentally. "Yes, that's me. I don't believe he knows you're here already."
"Oh,"
"I can go grab him for you if you'd like. I'm heading towards the office, anyways." Rossi offered, his face tightening with the welcoming smile.
"Oh, that's really sweet of you," You beamed back.
"My pleasure," The man chuckled as he paced gracefully out the doorway. You had failed to recognize how he was the tension reliever of the whole atmosphere because once he was gone, there was a bitter thickness in the world that you couldn't shake off. Hotchner and you stood there for a moment or two without speaking much, facing the doorway that Rossi had gone through.
From the corner of your eyes, you could see that he nodded his head and began pacing towards the countertop of coffee making utensils. You actually turned your head and glanced towards him to see whether or not your eyesight was right. You were. "Reid has taken a great liking to you." It got awkward really quickly.
"Oh really?"
"Yes, he doesn't speak much about you, but when he does, he seems very fond."
"What does he say about me—" You were soon interrupted by the sound of a heartfelt cry. It was too film like to be felt, you studied. When both Hotchner, who had just finished pouring coffee and you, glanced towards the glass window framing the sides of the waiting room, you had seen the exact source of the noise.
