pretty much that ring is really special to Zen and his entire family. it was his great-great-great grandmother's ring that the king at the time had made for her. when she bore a daughter, the ring was given to her when she married. then, she had a daughter and it repeats all the way down to Haruto. Haruto wore the ring before she was a widow, but the family got into a huge ruckus when she didn't give birth to a girl so the family was flipping their shit like "wtf are we supposed to do now." and so, when Haruto became a widow, Izana and Zen both promised that whoever got married first would give the ring to their bride (everyone thought Izana would be first to wed) as a kinda initiation into the family.
