chapter 16 - unbearable pain

Alex was battling to literally save her soul. She was in Urahara's shop under going the soul reaper test.

Will she fail? Succeed? Become good? Or pure evil?

"You're dying."

"Im sorry can you repeat that, it almost sounds like you just said I'm dying or am I imagining things?"

" Right now your chain of fate connecting your soul to your body has been severed. You can no longer return to your body. There is only one way to survive. You can  either pass this test and become a soul reaper or fail and  force us to kill you."

I couldn't reply... I was completely dumbstruck. My mind hit a blank, no thoughts or emotions existed,  exept kne little word. Die .... This little 3 letter word was stuck in my head, repeating itself over and over again.

I looked up at Urahara then to Ichigo and back to Urahara. They were very serious, not a single trace of smile qas on their faces. He nodded at Tessai, who stood next to me as I pushed my self up to sit on my knees, he nodded in return and the floor gave way underneath me. After what seemed like forever I fell to the ground with a loud thud.

"What the hell was that for?!? You do know there is this invention, I dont know if you have heard of it before, its caled a ladder! And why am I in this pit?!? You could of lowered me down gently you ass! Or even given me a warning!!! Your parents must have forgotten to teach you manners!!"

"This is your second test. Shattered shaft. You have 72 hours to make your way up the shaft, as a soul reaper. If you have failed to do so you will turn into a hollow and I have no choice but to kill you."

I pushed my self up on my knees again. Trying to get to my feet. It couldnt be that hard to scale these walls, right? I looked up towards the sky. It was kilometers deep, it won't be as easy as it looks.

I heard Tessai speak from my side, I looked over at him he was sitting cross legged againgst the wall. " I'm sorry Alex, I must restrain you during this period, in case you turn, its easier for us that way."

"How am I supposed to climb walls with my hands tied? Do know what you sound like? Expecting me to climb out with no hands, I'm not an acrobat you know or a magician, it's not like i can say abracadabra and levitate out."

"Become a soul reaper."

I looked at him completely confused. Right, because it's just that simple. I'll just pull a sticker that says soul reaper out of my ass and stick it on my forehead. 

I slumped my shoulders in defeat and looked to the ground for a few seconds.

"It's going to be alright, you can do this." I whispered softly to myself. "You have to."

I looked back at him again.

I nodded at him as he started incanting words that made no sense to me as a tipe of tape tied itself around me, pinning my hands behind my back.

I looked around me trying to figure out where I could climb out when the pain started in my cheast again, it was so intense I fell down on my side as my breath was knocked right out of my body, it felt like what I was assuming a heart attack would be like, maybe worse.

I looked down at my cheast and froze in horror. I couldnt belive what I was seeing, my chain thinngy.... Was ... Eating... It.... Self.... Talk about a sick and twisted form of caniballism, right?? The sight of it made me sick yo my stomach.
