Christmas break has started which means I'll be spending more time indoors. My parents and my brother Paul would usually come visit during Christmas Eve, but lately my grandma has been feeling sick, which means I won't be spending Christmas with them this year. This also means I will be spending more time alone. You're probably wondering why I can't just go to them, well ,the truth is I haven't stepped a foot in my hometown since the incident. Maybe it's because of the memories it holds or maybe it's just because I'm a coward and refuse to face the reality of my past.
Today is the last day we are allowed on campus, so I went by my locker and took some personal belongings. Since I was already at school, I decided it would be a good idea to check on Daniel. For the past week he's been avoiding me and acting weird. I tried not to give it much thought, but once I noticed how he tried to avoid me, I became suspicious of his sudden behavior.
I walk down the empty hall, heading to Daniel's office. I'm only a few hallways away from reaching Daniel's office when I see Zack coming from the opposite direction. I mentally groan, he was the least person I expected to see today. Now that I think about it though, ever since we met at the bar I have seen him more often, weird.
"Oh, hey!" He says as he walks towards me. Here we go awkward conversation.
"Hi." I awkwardly wave at him.
"What's up? How you doing?" He asks. I am hoping this won't last long, especially after I told Daniel about him, which made it even more embarrassing.
"I'm doing very well. What about you?" I half smile, I probably look very uncomfortable at this point. I don't know how much longer I can take of this awkward conversation.
"I'm good. Do you have plans for Christmas? Are you like leaving the city or?" Well I wasn't expecting Sherlock to interrogate me so soon. Why do I have to be constantly reminded of the lonely Christmas break I will be having?
"Oh, no... I'm not leaving. I'm spending Christmas by myself this year, not very exciting hahaha." I don't know why it matters, but it does; this year, it does.
"Oh damn. Look, my family is really big and we make this huge dinner and if we slip you in, I promise, nobody will notice."
I laugh and shake my head.
"Come on! It would be fun and Daniel will be there too! So.. Fun?"
I couldn't say no to be honest. Not only because of his charming smile but also because I didn't want to do nothing for weeks.
Once Zack leaves I walk to Daniels office.
I peak over the door, making sure he is there.
"Good afternoooon!!" I say, wearing the widest smile ever."Hi," he responds as I let myself inside.
"I have good news for you," I say sitting on one of his chairs.
"What? You're pregnant?" There he goes again with his lame jokes. God, I'm starting to miss his usual self.
"Ha-ha very funny. No, I have been invited to dinner for Christmas." I know for sure that will catch his attention.
"Oh, really?" He finally shifts his gaze from whatever he was doing and looks at me.
"Yes, Zack invited me to your family dinner."
"Uh, no way.." I didn't expect this reaction but I couldn't careless.
"What? You've basically been begging me to attend one of those dinners for the past three years! Gosh. Anyways, see you later. I gotta do some shopping." I wink at him as I grab my belongings and leave his office.
