Beep beep beep, my alarm screeched. I groaned and snoozed it. I just lied there. Not moving. Just lying there.
After about five minutes of just lying there, I got up and went to take a shower. I just let the water spay on my head. I didn't want to get out, but I knew that I had to if I wanted to make it to school.
After I got out of my shower and threw my hair in a messy bun and threw on some sweatpants and an oversized sweatshirt. I was to exhausted to do any makeup.
I walked downstairs to make myself breakfast. I threw some Eggo waffles in the toaster and grabbed a bottled Starbucks frappuccino from the fridge. I packed my backpack while I was waiting for my breakfast to be done.
Both of my parents were already at work. It was kind of nice to be alone. Away from all of the people who have me sympathetic looks. Away from all of the people who pity me. Away from all of the people who knew that I had cancer.
My waffles popped out of the toaster and I put some syrup on them. I was finishing my breakfast when the doorbell rang. Who could that be? I answered the door to Eva standing there.
"Ready to go?" She asked. I completely forgot that it was a Wednesday. Eva, Renee, Madden, and I always carpooled on Wednesdays.
"Umm, yeah. Sure!" I said, "Let me go grab my backpack." I walked into the kitchen and grabbed my backpack along with my Uggs. I threw my backpack over my shoulder and slid my feet into my boots as I locked the front door and walked out to Eva's car.
"Hey!" Renee said, hugging me, "We missed you yesterday!"
"I was about to die without you guys," I said as I fake fainted. I was the drama queen of the group. I am obsessed with musical theatre!
"So what was the appointment for?" Madden asked as I sat down.
"I have a deadly flesh eating parasite," I said sarcastically as I rolled my eyes at him.
"Seriously, though," he said with a tint of sass to his voice.
"It was a checkup if you must know," I said trying to match this sass in his voice.
"Why aren't you wearing pink?" Eva asked as she turned around from her seat before she backed out.
"And you're wearing sweatpants!" Renee said.
"I guess you can't sit with us," Madden said.
"Fine, Regina," I said as I gave him a punch in the arm, "I was planning on sitting with the mathletes instead."
We made Mean Girls references the whole rest off the way to school. I was happy, until I remembered that I have cancer. Cancer. That one word stuck in my brain all day at school. Cancer. I have cancer. Nora Quincy has cancer. I almost forgot my schedule and started to walk to science when I should have been going to math.
"Look," Madden said, "I know that you may think that we don't notice, but I can tell that something is up. You don't have to tell me, but if you need someone to talk to, I am always ready to listen."
"Thanks," I said, "I'm just really stressed with life right now."
"I get it," he said, "Now come on. We're going to be late to math."
I was relieved that he didn't ask any questions, but I knew that I would have to tell my friends soon.
