"Happy Birthday dear Haven! Happy birthday to you!" My mother and father sing. It's my nineteenth birthday. This is that day. The day where I have to find a job. My mom is a seamstress and my dad is a carpenter. I want to help my family. I have my eye on going to Service training. That's the two weeks class on how to be a servant in the Mage's castle. Especially to serve the Mage's son, Avalon. Huh. He is the hottest guy in the kingdom, next is Dreidel Sayer. He's been wanting to ask me out for weeks. I have worshipped the ground Prince Avalon walked on since I saw his face. He has a fiancée now. Princess Askari. She's pretty, I guess.

My mother gives me my dough cake. It's like a biscuit but flatter and square. It's the best we could afford. I enjoy it.

"Sweety, it's time to give her your surprise." Mother tells father.

Father runs into the dining room. Two minutes later, he gives me a piece of paper.

Dear applicant,

We have accepted your offer as one of the royal servants for the king. Meet with us at 6:00 am promptly. We are glad to have you as a servant.

Signed,
Royal advisor.

"It went through?! Already?" I had already applied for this job before my birthday. I didn't think I would get in. You have to have a particular set of skills to be one of the royal servants.

"Yes. Well, get some sleep. You have a big day tomorrow." My mom hugs me with tears in her eyes. "Oh, I made you this." She raises up a dress that's purple and royal blue. I smile and kiss my mom on the cheek. I love it. I going to be the servant for the Mage, and maybe Avalon.

5:00 AM

I get up from my loft and put my dress on. I walk outside. Valkyrie is a strange place but I love it. I live in the deep side of Valkyrie where there's barely any food for miles. The Valkyrie square is a mile away. That's where I can catch a carriage to the castle. I start walking.

Trees trees and more trees. It took me fifteen minutes to get to Valkyrie square. Valkyrie square is a popular place where all of the action happens. Shopping and jobs. Carriage rides and carpentry. It's more of a hexagon really. Brick streets and peasants all around. I walk to the Carriage stop. The driver was eating an apple. I wave in his face.

"Sir. I need to get to the castle." I smile.

He looks up and down then laughs, "You!? The king doesn't like the lowest of peasants. You managed to be under THAT! Haha."

I have a stern face.

"You're serious?! Five pence." He holds his hand out.

I give him five pence leaving me with two pence left. That will afford me a hot sandwich from Mingus's. I want to throw up just thinking about it. I hop on the carriage and away we go.
******************************
I fall asleep on the carriage and wake up at the castle's entrance. The castle has a golden hue to it. There were five towers and a draw bridge made of oak wood. The moat sparkled in the sun's light. I am so excited. The carriage drops me off at the two iron doors. I smile.
