She walked up to the boardwalk and sat on the edge of the rotting wooden planks. The murky water below was filled with bubbles and ripples, distorting her reflection. The water was dark, an odd green-blue colour. She dipped her toe in, and shivered as the ice-cold current tugged at her legs. There was no one in sight, and the moon shone above, covered with clouds. The wind brushed through the trees surrounding the ocean, and to the girl, it sounded like whispers. Come with us, the voices beckoned invitingly. You'll be safe in the water. But if you leave, the water can't protect you anymore.
She glanced around and spotted a glimmering silver tail in the water, seeming like it was beckoning to her to come. A pair of wings rustled in the nearby trees, and she glimpsed a white paw camouflaged in the clouds.
She rose from the planks, her white dress billowing around her as the wind, once a gentle breeze, tore through her hair and made her eyes water. She took a deep breath and picked up her bag, slinging it over one shoulder and walked away from the edge of the boardwalk. The wind died down and she took one last look back. The animals were gone, and the water was still and quiet once again. For the first time in her life, she felt truly alone. But, her decision was made. Stay safe, my daughter, the voice whispered one last time before it faded into space. She took another step back before the storm unleashed its fury. Rain pelted down on her, drenching her immediately, while thunder and lightning completed the show with sound effects and lighting. She heard an evil cackle sound behind her. The storm stopped as suddenly as it started. Her eyes became wide and frightened. An icy chill crawled up her spine as she abruptly turned around. A horrible scream built up in her throat, but she was shocked to silence. And she stood there for a couple minutes, as still as a statue, her face frozen in horror. As she slowly came back to life, a red line started forming across her neck, and blood trickled out. Her lifeless form collapsed on the boardwalk, and the evil laugh was heard once again.
