Chapter Two.
"Blaze, they'll be home soon." Mom said, watching as I stood at the foot of my bed in my new room. I didn't know what it was, but I felt like I had been to the house before. I was almost certain I had, but I couldn't place my finger on it. It was killing me, not knowing.
"I feel like I've been in this house before, who's house is it?" I ask her, crossing my arms and staring at the petite woman. Mom smiled, brushing away tendrils of black hair from her doe brown eyes. "You probably have."
I frown, looking around the room at all the new furniture. My eyes settle on a wrapped box, tied with a pretty red box and paired with a white envelope. I point to it and look at the forty year old woman, "what is that?"
"Open it and read the card, I'm going to help Nancy get dinner started. Your step-brother will be home soon, your step-father too." Her eyes lit up, mentioning her husband and I knew it wasn't because she loved him, it because he was wealthy.
Mom felt the need to be married to a man that would work and bring in a lot of money. Her ideal husband was someone who could provide her with luxurious things in life, keeping her happy until her golden years. Mom was a gold-digger, pure and simple. I was embarrassed for her and myself.
I walked to the present, ripped away the paper and the bow and opened the envelope to reveal a 'welcome home' card that made me want to puke. I opened it, ignoring the hair falling into my face, and licked my cracked lips.
"Blaze, we hope you accept this gift as a sign of welcoming you in our family." I whisper, feeling bile rise up in the back of my throat. I stared down at Mom's cursive writing, rolling my eyes and throwing it back down on the bed as I look down at the box.
Figures, a new laptop. I didn't even need a new laptop, my old one was working perfectly fine. I turned away from it, walking through the double doors that was opposite my bed. I rolled my eyes, looking at the endless amount of clothes that had been stocked up in the closet in the perfect size for me.
Closing them, I headed for the other door. I walked into a white and gold bathroom, equipped with my favourite shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I shook my head, a scoff leaving my lips as I closed the door behind me. I really didn't want to meet these people, whoever they were.
"Blaze!" I jumped, placing my hand over my heart as I looked around for the source of my mother's voice calling me. I spotted a white box by the door, lined with buttons and room names with a small speaker included.
"Blaze, come down to the kitchen." I could hear the excitement in her voice, it made my stomach churn and the hairs at the back of my neck stand on edge as I followed her orders.
I arrived at the kitchen, seeing a head of blonde hair in the doorway and my stomach sunk as they turned around to stare at me. Logan Jackson wasn't exactly pleased to see me either, in fact he looked beyond pissed that I was even in his house. It hit me hard, now knowing whose house it was and I wanted to collapse to the floor and scream.
"Blaze, honey, now you knew why I wanted you home so soon. Mike was the guy that I was dating. Logan is your step-brother, aren't you happy?" I stared at her, ignoring the harsh stare from Logan and the calm stare I was getting from Mike Jackson.
I turned around, running my hands through my hair as my feet led me back upstairs to my room, where I closed the door and slid down the wall. Mom had officially lost her mind, she knew how much Logan and I didn't get along with each other. Did she hate me that much?
Mom followed me up, sitting down opposite me and taking my hands in hers, a small sigh leaving her lips as she guiltily stared at the floor. "I know that my skills as a mother is none existent and that you're father is in another city, away from us both because I pushed him away. I know that my taste in men are a little much, but it's different this time."
Mom takes a deep breath, squeezing my hands as I stare at my lap. I look up at her, feeling sick of hearing the same things over and over again. "It's never different, Mom." Her eyes gloss over, watching as I pull my hands from her and stand up.
"No, it is. I feel like Mike is the one for me, this time I'm real. I know, you and Logan aren't close, but things can change. Give him a chance to prove how nice he is, Logan needs a sister, someone he can be close too." I roll my eyes, sitting on my bed and kicking off my shoes.
"Alright, Mom. Can I go to sleep now?" Mom stares at me, her hands dropping by her side as she sighs and nods.
"Tomorrow there's school, Logan offered to drive you. Make sure you're up early, he picks his friend up. Seth Green, remember him?" My ears perk up, but I try not to seem too excited to him and nod my head before she leaves. At least something good was bound to come out of this.
