(1998)
You tossed and turned in bed trying to fall into a comfy slumber but for some reason you just weren't tired. It was starting to annoy you quite frankly, just laying in bed, wide awake, doing nothing but staring blankly at the ceiling. You turned on your side looking at the alarm clock on the bedside table, the flashing red numbers the only source of lighting in the room. 1:35am. You had been awake for about three hours now. Letting out an exasperated sigh, you threw the plush white sheets off and got up from the bed. It was clear that you weren't going to get any sleep anytime soon, so you figured maybe if you took a long walk, explored the city streets or something, hopefully that would exhaust you bit. Quickly, you slipped on some nearby shoes and pulled on a jacket before exiting your hotel room. It was deafeningly quiet as you strolled down the hallway passing several identical white doors until you reached the elevator. You stepped inside the tiny squared space and pressed the button to go down, since you were on the third floor. Patiently waiting, you had expected the elevator to smoothly continue down since nobody is usually up at 1am but to your surprise the elevator had come to a sudden halt on the second floor. You quirked an eyebrow as you watched the glistening metal doors slowly open to reveal a tall young man in a sweatshirt and basketball shorts with his blonde hair hanging messily in his face. He looked like he had just woke up, but he seemed to be wide awake. The boy seemed just as surprised as you when his bright blue eyes connected with yours. You'd be lying if you said you didn't find him to be the least bit attractive.

"Couldn't sleep?" He asked

"How'd you guess?"

He lightly smiled and shrugged his shoulders before stepping in beside you. This had made you smile in return. Soon enough silence filled the air making you feel very awkward. You always did hate sharing elevators with other people. A few seconds later you had began to notice that the elevator was taking longer than it should which was strange. Suddenly it came to an abrupt stop and the small space began to violently shake. You instinctively placed your hands on the walls to steady yourself. The lights had flicked on and off a few times before stopping completely.

"Crap, the elevator broke down" the boy spoke pushing at the buttons then grabbing the emergency phone and putting it to his ear "and the line is down, just great" he slammed it back in place. You let out a deep sigh of annoyance, being trapped inside an elevator with a stranger at 1 in the morning is not what you needed right now.

"The hotel should know that the elevator broke down so help should be coming soon right?" You tried to make the best of the situation but the boy only shook his head.

"This early? I don't think so" he sighed running a hand through his messy hair. You frowned sliding down the wall and on to the floor soon enough the boy doing the same thing across from you.
