Knowing your skin type is one of the most important things when choosing a foundation and skincare products, obviously! Keep reading to learn a bit about how to figure out your skin type and how to care for your skin.

First I'll go through the process of determining your skin type, I'll then list the different skin types as well as some info and skincare tips.

How to determine your skin type

1) wash your face.
Remove your makeup and wash off the day's oil and dirt so your skin can start fresh.

2) wait.
you should wait 2 hours without applying any products to your skin, we want your skin's natural state.

3) what do you see?

The different skin types and how to care for them

• your skin feels tight, you may have flaky areas, foundation and other products won't really stick to your skin? you have dry skin. Moisturizers are your best friend! Choose one depending on how dry your skin is, some people might have very dry skin, others just have slightly dry skin. Treat your skin with lotions and creams, stay away from irritating products

• your skin is shiny and may feel a little slick to the touch? you have oily skin. Even though breakouts can happen to all skin types, it's most common on oily skin, because all the oil that your skin produces clogs your pores easily. Stick to gel and liquid formulas. Avoid heavy softening textures. I also recommend to exfoliate 3-4 times a week instead of 2-3 times.

•No signs of flaking or oiliness. Your skin feels smooth and, well, normal. You're one of the lucky people with normal skin. Look for lightweight formula, nothing too thick or heavy.

last but not least

•you have some oily patches, some dry patches on your skin? Is your T-Zone particularly oily and your nose/cheeks are more on the dry side?(this is most common)
You have combination skin.
Target oily areas with gels and liquids. Soothe dry areas with light lotions and serums.
Basically you want to stick to the tips for dry skin and oily skin, just apply your products to the right spots.
I personally like to rub coconut oil all over my cheeks before going to sleep
