From The Journal Of Lorraine Ellis

March 24, 1924

Ever since I had the idea of hiding the key within the frame of the painting, Jesse has been looking at me strangely.

No, it is not in humor. Not even in seriousness. He has just been looking, watching to see what I would do next.

Father has even commented on it, telling Jesse that I am not all books and properness. Jesse merely smirked, looking away to him and Wesley...but his eyes eventually found mine once more. It was in that moment I realized what the look he was giving me was – astonishment.

I had to bite the inside of my lip to keep myself from making a comment. Of course, he would not have thought I would come up with an idea as such. I was a woman.

But only a few more moments of looking back at him told me I did not have to. He knew I was about to speak my mind on the matter and he raised an eyebrow, almost challenging. I could not help the small smile that appeared on my lips.

He was not as subtle in his smile, though.
