“So how is it going with your new boyfriend?” I asked Nicky as I sat in the seat beside her. She was currently putting her brown hair up into a ponytail and fixing her shirt. She had woken up late so she ended up coming to school like a gorilla monster, trust me it’s not a pretty sight.

“It’s okay, our relationship was in the dumps but now we are dandy,” she told me and I nodded in understanding. Nicky never mentioned her boyfriends to me, not until she was ready to introduce him to me. And just my luck that it’s today she was excited to take me to a soccer match where her boyfriend was going to be.

“I can’t wait to show him to you, he is the sweetest guy I have ever met,” she babbled as the teacher gave us a worksheet. “He always makes me laugh, and is really polite,” she said a bright smile on her face as she rambled about her boyfriend.

She has been like this for a week so I already got used to it, after all she was happy and I didn’t want to be the one to stop her from smiling. This guy she kept on talking about seemed nice from everything she has told me, and I’m sure he is ‘The One’.

“Oh, that’s right he’s from St. Richards High School right?” I asked her as I picked up my pencil and began to answer the first question from the sheet. St. Richards is the High school next to us, it is all male and is mostly for guys who have amazing grades or an athlete.

“Yep, our school is going to play against his school,” she answered. “I feel guilty that I’m going to cheer for the enemy,” she admitted as she put her head on top of her palms.

“I feel betrayed Nicky, how could you cheer for our enemy?” I questioned sarcasm dripping from the words. She just chuckled and looked at her paper.

“I can’t help it, he is just amazing,” she answered, her eyes turned into that same dazed expression whenever she thought of her boyfriend.

“Enough with the lovey dovey, let’s get back to work,” I snapped my fingers and she just puckered her lips. “Don’t give me that face, we have to turn this in before the bell rings,” I warned as she gave me her puppy eyes.

            “Fine,” she sighed in defeat.

I was late! I had been held up by my teacher and hadn’t realized what time it was until it was too late. By now the game would be over and I was going to get scolded by Nicky for not showing up early. I was by the bleachers my eyes scanning the crowd for a certain brunette with big doe emerald eyes.

“Ashley! Over here!” Nicky yelled a few feet away from me. I went to her and sat down next to her. “The game is still going on,” she informed me as she looked out at the green field. There was a group of guys kicking around a ball, our guys wearing the blue shirt and the enemy wearing red.

“I’m glad I made it,” I said but got a little slap to the shoulder from Nicky. “You still arrived late,” she pointed out.

“Hey, at least I came,” I said as I searched for Ryan. He said he was from St. Richards and that he was in the soccer team, which meant he was here. And there he was running with the ball at his feet, his face covered in sweat and his hair swaying here and there with the wind. He looked cool, running with that determined face.

“Yay!” Nicky cheered beside me when Ryan kicked in the ball in the net, scoring a point for his team. The referee blew his whistle signaling the end of the game, and yelled out, “St. Richards wins!”

“Awesome! That was incredible,” I blurted out loud as I watched Ryan get hugged by all his team mates. He had a bright smile on his face when they poured a gallon of Gatorade over his head.

“I know,” Nicky said her eyes getting that dazed look.

“So when am I meeting this boyfriend of yours?” I brought up when we were at the parking lot, Nicky’s parents were going to drive us. “Because I want to congratulate him on his win.”

“He said to meet him at the Jones Diner, he’s going to treat us,” she said as she went to her mom’s car and got in the backseat. I slid in and greeted her mother. “Don’t worry he is going to bring another guy so you won’t feel lonely or awkward,” she quickly answered my unspoken question.

When we arrive at the Diner we picked a booth close to the window that gave us a good view of outside. There were a few teenagers in the diner, but none that we knew.  The diner was cute and designed in light wood colors, and had a theme of a farm.

“I’m so hungry,” I whined as I slumped against the seat. I closed my eyes and made myself comfortable, the guys were probably going to be a while. And they say girls take too much time to get ready.

“Oh! Over here!” Nicky suddenly blurted out making me snap awake at the loud disturbance. I opened my eyes and sat up straight and turned my head to look at my friend’s boyfriend. My face fell when he approached, I recognized those warm eyes anywhere.

            “Ryan?”
