{Difficult Questions}

“So you have to add the parenthesis here and then add the numbers and divide it by the distance,” I explained as I showed Ryan how to input the numbers in the calculator. “Make sure to close the parenthesis before you divide it or it won’t work,” I added.

“Yo, Miss. Sulky what’s the answer for this question?”

“Figure it out yourself,” I replied with a fake smile.

“What a horrible teacher, only helping her crus—” I covered his mouth before he could finish his sentence, and brought my mouth to his ear.

“Don’t you dare finish that sentence,” I whispered lowly.

He nodded his head and blew at my hand, I squirmed and let go of him. “What has the world come to? A student being sexually harassed by his tutor,” Matt hugged himself and sniffed loudly. “I feel so violated,” he muttered.

“I just covered your mouth!” I defended myself. I sat upright and grabbed my pencil, “Just show me the question you don’t get, and I’ll help you.”

Matt nodded in understanding and got his paper; he handed it to me and waited for my reply. I was surprised to find out that every question was answered correctly and he even had the formula written down. It was clear that Matt clearly understood Physics, but I don’t get why he wanted to join this session.

“Something wrong Ashley?” He asked innocently from his chair.

“Yeah,” I looked up to meet his gaze, “where the hell did you put the test?”

“I have no idea, what you’re talking about,” he averted his eyes to the right and tapped his fingers on the table.

We were currently in his room since Ryan’s house was a bit crowded (he has a lot of siblings) and I was finding it quite odd that Matt’s room was clean. I mean normally a guy’s room should be a mess with un-described objects and dirty clothes lying around, and an un-made bed. But his room was the opposite, I’m kind of impressed.

“What did you get for the Physics test?” I clarified narrowing my eyes at him with suspicion. There is no way that he needs help in something he can easily solve without difficulty.

“It was so terrible that I threw it away because I was ashamed,” he answered but I swear I detected a hint of sarcasm. He was definitely lying and it was annoying me that he is getting between my business.

“Is that right…?” I trailed off feeling a pair of eyes on me; I turned and caught Ryan staring at me with a troubled expression. “What? Do I have something on my face?” I asked my hands rapidly flying to my face.

His cheeks flamed and he shook his head, “No it’s just that you look really different today, kind of cute.”

I felt my own cheeks flush at his words my heart leaped at the compliment. “Thank you,” I squeaked out grabbing a strand of hair and twirling it around my finger. I was glad that he noticed the clothes I had worn today and I had curled my hair from the ends. My white dress flowed to my knees a thin leather brown belt around the waist.

“Really? I think she looks the same as always,” Matt shrugged his shoulders a frown on his face as he looked away in anger. I raised my eyebrow wondering what his problem was, and glanced back at Ryan who seemed to have a difficult time answering one of the questions. Matt sat on his bed texting away on his cell-phone the whole time.

“Well I guess I’ll leave now, my parents want me back before seven,” Ryan declared after he had checked his watch. We both had been going over formulas and questions the whole time and occasionally I would glance at Mr. Grouchy who was still in his cell phone.

“I’ll join you, I was already planning to leave,” I suggested as I grabbed my notebooks and pencils and stuffed them neatly into my bag. Matt glanced over at us and shrugged, “I guess I’ll walk you both to the bus stop.”

I huffed in annoyance, but agreed none the less for his “kindness” by the time we were opening the door to leave I remembered that I left the calculator back in Matt’s room. I excused myself and told them I would go and find it.

I went back inside Matt’s room and searched aimlessly for the calculator, I leaned down and looked under the rug, under the table, on his bed, but there was no trace of it anywhere. After a while a chuckle met my ears and when I glanced toward the door Matt stood beside the door, a smile on his face.

“Did you find it yet?” He asked as he came in the room, his hands nestling inside his pockets.

“If I found it by now, I wouldn’t be searching idiot,” I answered as I stood up giving him an annoyed glare. He frowned and I blinked in puzzlement, why was he acting so mean lately?

“Why the hell are you so rude and mean to me?” He questioned out of the blue, I raised my eyebrows in confusion. “Ever since we met you haven’t looked at me properly, all you do is go after a guy that doesn’t even like you. I’m disappointed that you are the kind of girl that would go after her best friend’s boyfriend,” he continued, his tone squeezed the walls of my heart and it only made me enraged by the second.

“What do you know? I don’t want to be in love with him, but I just am. And you have no right to intervene in my life, when you don’t even know me,” I hissed angrily my hands tightened into fists at my sides. Who does he think he is? Seeing straight through me and pulling out all my flaws and problems?

“I may not know everything about you, but I know if you keep on holding on you will fall and sooner or later get hurt. I’m only telling you this for your own good,” he informed me as he took a step closer.

“Hmph, I don’t need your help,” I huffed out as I prepared to walk past him and leave the room, forgetting about my original objective to retrieve the calculator. But before I could take one more step away he grabbed my arm and roughly pushed me against the bed, his hands pinning me above my chest.

“I hate to admit it, but you really drive me crazy. You are stubborn and too weird for my liking, your hair is a tangled mess and you are in love with another guy…” he trailed off the distance between us decreasing, his warm breath fanning my lips. For some strange reason my heart was thumping madly against my chest, and I felt my cheeks flame at the position we were in. “But I love you,” before I could react he leaned in and connected his lips with my own.

I froze my eyes widening as he kissed me and after the bewilderment dispersed in my mind, I closed my eyes and enjoyed the feel of his soft warm lips. Did I feel the same about him?

The question rang in my head as we kissed each other slowly and gently, but the moment was interrupted by the sound of a choked cough. We both opened our eyes and glanced over at Ryan who was standing by the doorway his bag over his shoulder, a deep frown on his face.

“Sorry, but you two took too long,” Ryan commented. “If you two want to be alone then I’ll just leave first,” he added before turning around and stomping away. I pushed Matt away and grabbed my bag giving him one last glance, before leaving behind Ryan.

I could still picture Matt’s rejected expression as I left, but I didn’t think of him as I do for Ryan. How am I supposed to reply after that unexpected kiss?
