The vet

Chapter 6

"Yes this is the Smiths. My horse Lucky just broke his leg. Can you come look at it? Thanks Dr. Mark. Bye." my dad just called the vet.

"Do you think Lucky can live?" I asked my dad through sniffles.

"Maybe, I have heard of situations like this when a horse is saved. Hopefully Dr. Mark can try to save him."

I ran out of the house and into the arena. My grandpa was bending over Lucky.

"He doesn't look good Bella. I don't think he will make it."

"I believe he will make it. If he does I will never jump another horse again."

"Don't say that. You were a beginner. I shouldn't have said that about pizza. You got excited."

"Come on Lucky. I know you can make it." I whispered into Luckys neck.

"He's right over here." I heard my dads voice and I looked to see him leading Dr. Mark over to Lucky.

"Left fore hoof." My grandpa said to Dr. Mark as he kneeled over Lucky.

Dr. Mark looked at the wound and said, "looks like the pastern bone was fractured. I might be able to save him if I can get the bone back in place and get a cast on that ankle very soon. If I can't......"

"I understand," my dad said, "but I think it would be best if you....."

I quickly cut in ,"do what ever you can. You need to save him, I can't let him die like Pepper."

"Ok," Dr. Mark said, "Ill do it for the sake of the girl."

I ran up to Dr. Mark and hugged him, "start as soon as you can."

"Ok." Dr. Mark smiled.

After Dr. Mark had set the bone and had the cast onto Luckys ankle, my dad and grandpa got a trailer and hauled Lucky back to his stall.

"Thanks for your help Dr. Mark." my dad said as Dr. Mark got into his car and drove away.

Then my dad turned to me, "you heard what Dr. Mark said?"

"Yes. No riding for 6 weeks, after Dr. Mark takes the cast off, 1 1/2 weeks of pasture and time for Lucky to gain strength in his foot."

"Ok, now go wash up. We have a big day tomorrow."
