Timeless souls

It was a time for new beginnings and starting over. Rumplestiltskin was safely locked away in the dungeons where he couldn't hurt anyone else. Merida and Pan knew that it would be a constant threat to Aiden; after all, Pan could never go back on his deal with Rumple, and if he escaped, he would try to take Aiden again.
After staying in Dunbroch a few more weeks, Pan decided it'd be best for him to return to Neverland. He didn't want to stay any longer than he had to in the mortal world. He'd refused to let Merida give him back his magic, because in his reasoning, 'you need it more than me since you're an old woman that has a baby now'. That didn't go too well for Pan, as you can imagine. He was still recovering from the bruises Merida had gave him.
Today was the last day he had with Merida, and they stood at the end of the bridge that connected the castle to the mainland. Maudie was taking care of Aiden; after she'd more or less gotten over her fear of Pan, she'd glommed right onto the baby and wouldn't let him out of her sight.
Merida looked up at Pan, trying to keep on a brave face. She was scared of what was to come, but she knew he couldn't stay here.
"I don't suppose we could break our agreement for two minutes, could we?" Pan gave a low breathy chuckle as he winked at her.
"Psshh no," Merida scoffed, teasingly rolling her eyes at him. "You know the rules. No kissing, no sharing of tents, no fuc-"
"Alright alright, I know the rules," he clapped a hand over her mouth, laughing at her. "Don't you think its a bit outdated?"
Merida shook her head, grinning as she pried his hand off her mouth. "Its not outdated at all. Its not like we're insanely in love and I'm trying my hardest not to kiss you right now," she finished, a little out of breath at how suddenly close Pan seemed.
"Is that so?" He whispered, one hand sneaking around her waist and pulling her closer as his breath fanned across her face, making her feel strangely lightheaded. "Well it would be a shame to break our agreement now," he whispered against her ear.
"I suppose it would be," she murmured, her eyes locking with his and finding herself craving the feel of his lips against her own.
"Stick to the agreement Mer. I'll see you around," he said, a ghost of a smirk playing around his lips. And then he was gone.

Years passed, and Aiden grew into a sweet, though horribly mischievous and headstrong, young boy. He terrorized everyone in the castle and the surrounding villages and yet everyone seemed to love him when he gave them a bright smile. Merida would oftentimes watch Aiden, smiling as little things he did reminded her of Pan. It had been 8 years to the day since Pan had rescued Merida from Hades. Merida was in the stable grooming her horse; Angus had long ago died and gotten buried, but before he had gone he'd had several offspring, and Merida promptly picked out the one that looked most like her old steed.
"Mer?" She spun around as someone said her name. Pan stood there, his eyes dark and intense as he scanned Merida before meeting her eyes. The brush she was using clattered to the ground as her mouth fell open slightly, her eyes widening. He crossed the space between them in a few easy steps, pulling her into a hug as he released a breath he'd been holding. "I'm sorry I was gone for so long," he murmured.
Merida froze for a moment, trying to process all this before suddenly shoving him away. "What are you doing here?" She hissed, her eyes snapping at him.
A confused look crossed his face. "I'm here to see you. Its been a few months. I missed you," he said simply.
"A few months?! You son of a bitch," she spat, trembling from anger.

They were suddenly interrupted by the clattering of hooves outside the stable. The door was slowly pulled open, and a small boy walked in, his horse trailing calmly behind him. "Mum you should've seen Torin and I today!" He said excitedly, his green eyes lighting up. "We jumped this huuuuge log and went swimming in the loch, and-..." His voice faltered as he realized something was wrong, glancing between Merida and Pan. "Who are you?" He asked bluntly, cocking his head. "I'm Aiden. This is Torin," he said, glancing at his horse with pure admiration in his eyes.
"Yeah...I know," Pan said, a proud smile growing on his face.
"Aiden, could you leave us alone for a moment?" Merida asked, her voice trembling slightly as she kept staring at Pan. "I'll take care of Torin."
"Okay!" He chirped happily, running out of the stable, his small bow slung across his back.
Merida and Pan were silent for a moment until he spoke.
"How long has it been?" He asked quietly.
"Seven years." She crossed her arms.
He bit his lip, sighing. "Its only been 3 months in Neverland time. If I'd known I never would have stayed away, I swear."
Merida was silent for a long time before slowly nodding. "I know."
"Aiden doesn't belong here, in Dunbroch. He belongs on Neverland. I heard the news that Rumple escaped. He'll come back for Aiden, and it'll be easier for us to protect him if he's on Neverland." He hesitantly reached out and tilted up her chin to look at him, a small smile playing on his lips. "Its time to go home."

The sea breeze washed over the cliff, tousling Merida's hair. A seagull screeched in the distance as it soared by.
"I love you Mer." Pan's whispered words were almost swept away by the breeze as he leaned his forehead against hers, their hands intertwined. She drew away for a moment, hesitating before leaning forward and pressing her lips to his. They barely moved, barely even breathed for a moment as his hands dropped to her waist and gently pulled her closer, slowly kissing her. Finally she reluctantly pulled away, her eyes sparkling with thinly veiled amusement at him. "We broke the agreement. But you know...it was kind of outdated."
"The agreement was shit," he said, pulling her in for another long, sweet kiss.
"Mum! Dad! C'mon! We're gonna be late for the ceremony!" Aiden yelled at them, perched on top of Torin, who shook his mane and whinnied.
Merida smirked slightly at Pan. "We wouldn't want to be late to our wedding now, would we?"

All the clans were there witnessing the event, as well as the Lost Boys who were in the corner, giving Clan McGuffin hostile looks. Merida was getting married in white, her hair a waterfall of red curls down her back and the crown of Dunbroch nestled on top of her head.
"I love you," she mouthed to Pan, squeezing his hand gently.
"I love you too," he whispered back, his mouth curving in a smile.
"You may kiss the bride." Merida didn't wait for Pan as she grabbed the lapels of his suit, pulling him down for a long kiss.
"Until the end?" Merida whispered, her arms around his shoulders.
"Until the end." Pan smiled.
