Okay, enough things that aren't really anime. *coughs* Cory in the House *coughs*

I'm getting serious now. This review will be.... *sucky snare drum roll* Brennan, give me those sticks so I can do a real snare drum roll and not just a bunch of fast hits. *triplet double stroke roll at 150 bpm* much better.

ONE PUUUUNNNNNCCCCHHHHHH!!!!! ... Man. One Punch Man.

Yes, we're doing that one parody anime that everyone loves. But doesn't everyone love a good parody anime.

If you don't know what I parody anime, it is basically a genre of anime that makes fun of stereotypes in anime. In this case, One Punch Man makes fun of the typical anime hero in 4 main ways. There are plenty more, but I'll just list 4.

The first one is overpowered main characters. The first thing you see is that he is so strong that no one can compete against him. He even says it himself. In normal, mainstream anime, like DBZ, SAO, Bleach, etc., the main characters are way too strong, but the producers make it look like they are really having a hard time fighting; we all know that they are going to win, though.

OPM (One Punch Man) makes fun of this by making him so overpowered that it looks easy. Like seriously, if he was in SnK, the Titans (called Giants in Japanese) would be screwed.

The second one is his backstory: How he became so strong. Goku got strong over many years of martial arts training and training in chi, Kirito was forced to become strong to survive, Tatsumi (Akame ga Kill) was trained by an assassin, Killua (Hunter X Hunter) was born into a family of assassins.

But Saitama. Saitama did 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats and a 10 km run every day for 3 years. That's it. Isn't that satirical in itself?! Do I need to explain it any further? He took the unexpected route of becoming so freaking strong and fast. Fast enough to escape a force of gravity equivalent to a black hole's, mind you. And strong enough get knocked to the moon and jump back from the moon without a scratch!

The third one is his look. Yes, his look. Hear me out. Most shounen anime characters have a weird hairstyle. Take Goku and Ichigo for example. The spiked hair is kind of weird in today's society and has been awhile. But Saitama, au contraire, is bald! No weird hairstyle at all. No need to explain myself further.

The fourth one is his reason for becoming a hero. Some characters are forced into it, some want to take down a corrupt system, to escape a game, etc.

But Saitama, he just wanted to be a hero for fun. No reason in particular. He just thought that it would be fun.

OPM basically makes fun of the entire shounen genre in many ways aside from what I've listed.

Now, listen to the parodied opening of The Hero!! Opm's opening.

It's great, isn't it? 😂

Wow, I went way more in depth than I did with Cory in the House O-O
