Yay! Another anime review! Today is the first review of an anime that I recently finished. And it is.... *crappy drumroll*
We really need a better percussionist to do this. *does it myself*
Whoops, wrong thing. Let me try again.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure season 1!
Yes, I have finally finished season one of JoJo, so you can finally breathe easy. No more "talks" of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure... Season 1. (There are two more seasons as of this moment.)
Now onto the actual review. This show was not what I expected it to be. For those who want to see this, I caution you. I'll put up spoiler warnings if or when I get to a part that could be a spoiler.
What I'm about to say may be considered a spoiler, but it's the premise of the series: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is about the Joestar family tree, not just one member.
Let me explain. It starts out following the battle between Jonathan Joestar and Dio, but after Phantom Blood comes Battle Tendency, which follows Jonathan's grandson, Joseph Joestar. I expected this to be just about Jonathan, but it wasn't.
And with the new member of the Joestar family comes a new enemy. (Potential spoiler ahead) Joseph faced off against the Pillars, the creators of the mask which Dio used to become a vampire. Whether this means that there will be no more battles including the mask, I don't know.
(Spoiler done)
Regardless, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is one of the best shounen anime I've watched. Without a doubt, it's in my top ten now, but where it is in there, I don't know. I'm reluctant to push things down on the list because everything in my top ten is something I really love.
This anime doesn't just make you acquainted with one person of a family; you become acquainted with their entire family. The supernatural fighting technique is great because of one thing: it's limited.
Unlike Super Saiyan in DBZ, Hamon is limited by one thing: breathing. It doesn't seem like much of a limit, but it becomes a hindrance in the anime a lot. The enemies typically know of this limit and make use of it. Dio's servants pushed Jonathan into the water once, nearly killing him. The Pillars choked Joseph sometimes to keep him from breathing.
But it's not just lack of oxygen, you have to breathe at a certain pace to utilize Hamon effectively, so if you grow tired, and your breathing is ragged, Hamon is weaker, almost useless. That's why I like this fighting style more.
Goku continues to be the main protagonist is his series, but the protagonist switched is JBA. This means one thing: Goku keeps growing stronger, so new forms are made for him; but the Joestar line starts over always, so each main character starts from zero, which is something else I like.
I'm probably starting to sound verbose, and there's a lot more I want to say, but I'll leave it at that, so you can watch it for yourself. Sayonara!
