Complete darkness surrounded you, only the sound of your feet crunching over the frozen grass filled the quiet atmosphere. Route 16 was always a bit of a grassy maze that ran alongside Lumiose City and split up into two parts. Known as Mélancolle Path to those who lived there, the rustic route was your only other option in order to reach the Lost Hotel.

Still, the expensive hotels back in Lumiose would've been a much better alternative.

Your eyes consulted the map in your hands, scanning the lines and squiggles, trying to make sense of them.

"Am I here?" You say to yourself as you drag a finger along the 16 marked on the flimsy sheet.

It's an obvious mistake. The map is snatched away from your grasp, carrying it on a swift breeze. Before you can gasp from surprise, you make a break for the tool given to you by your friends. It had been a few routes since you'd seen Calum and Serena. Where were they anyways? Guesses told you Calum was probably battling the next gym leader on his conquest to become the champion whereas Serena was taking it easy somewhere, training her Pancham to become a Pangoro.

The thought of Serena roughing it out in the wilds of Kalos made you want to laugh. Sure, she was used to getting dirty as she constantly trained with her mother's Rhyhorn but things were different now. Pokemon were humans and riding one seemed a bit...well inhumane.

Following the wind that carried your map away, you stumble upon a light flashing in the distance. It flickers constantly, as if on some sort of silent rhythm. Upon reaching the swinging lantern whose short is getting a bit creepy, you realize you've come to the hotel you so desperately sought out.

"Wow," You whisper, footsteps creaking on the wood flooring. "This place is a dump."

Two hours in the rain only to come across a broken-down shack with less than stellar hospitality? You angrily scraped your muddy shoes against the threshold as you're faced with no other choice but to settle in for the night. The rain had picked up quite a bit, thundering against the roof like a Seismic Toss. There was no turning back.

Being a trainer without Pokemon was tough.

Your journey had only just begun when Pokemon suddenly became humans. You remember locking eyes with a butt-naked Chespin laying on the bed you'd bought days before. He or she, you never got a good look, dashed out before saying much of anything. Unlike your friends, you hadn't made friends with a Pokemon beforehand so things weren't looking good. Still, the good people of Kalos tried their best to force the creatures into submission and participate in battles anyways. You just weren't as forceful or intimidating as everyone else.

With a sigh, you reluctantly press on the door until it swings open. It's frightfully dark but once the light temporarily flickers on, you're able to make out wicker decor, an old (and very dirty) rug, and a television whose screen displays colorful static. In an instant, the light is gone again.

The wind howls like Lycanroc, shutting the door in the process.

Footsteps pitter-patter on the floor above you. In order to keep yourself from running out into the growing storm, you assume it's another tenant resting up for the night.

Once more, the light returns for a moment. You spot a room further down the hall with a flame's glow casting orange against the wall. As you hurry towards the room before the light decides to abandon you once more, the footsteps upstairs grow louder.

Just who in the world was up there? What in Kalos were they up to?

You tip-toe into the kitchen, sliding your hand against the cool tile wall in search of a light switch. As your fingers graze the thing you've come for, you give it a good flick.
