Rain was pouring outside like it hadn't in years. Although we lived in Seattle and figurative floods were the usual thing for us, this much water falling off the sky wasn't normal in mid August.
I ran towards my coat hanger so I could grab my umbrella along with my coziest jacket and sprinted towards the bus station. It was my very first day working at the coffee shop and I really didn't want to be late.
I got on the bus and quickly looked around me in search of a free seat (preferably next to a window). I found one at the very back and sat there as I patiently waited for the vehicle's arrival to my final destination.
I put my headphones on and listened to The Front Bottoms the whole trip. Just as I was getting more unaware of my surroundings and concentrating more on the music a beautiful boy decided to move from where he was previously standing and relocated himself in front of me so I was facing his stare. I looked up at him and shot him a kind smile, the kind you'd flash at a stranger for pure courtesy if they had had their eyes on you long enough.
He didn't curve his lips back; instead his face remained neutral as if I didn't exist and he had just been staring at a boring wall this whole time.
"Do I know you?", the mysterious guy asked breaking the silence that had began making me feel uncomfortable.
"I don't think so, do I look familiar to you?", I politely responded.
"Yeah, I just can't put my finger on what it is", he replied.
He wouldn't stop looking over at me until we realised. We both widened our eyes as I said "You're the angry customer from the coffee shop" in perfect synchronisation with him saying "You're the girl from the coffee shop".
"Wow, I didn't recognise you at first", I said. How could I really? His calm state didn't make me think about the unsatisfied customer with traces of anger splashed across his face, he looked like someone who'd actually be too shy to talk to the waitress about the wrong order she had written down instead of making a scene and blaming her for it.
"I'm Ashton, what's your name?"
As I was going to respond, I realised we had already arrived to the coffee shop so I told him my name quickly, said my goodbyes and got off the bus.
I looked at the bus once more before walking away when I noticed Ashton mouthing something to me from the window, I wasn't able to make up whatever he was saying so I just decided to ignore it and run towards the door so I wouldn't catch a cold.
