The bright greens, yellows, and reds blurred by me while my paws carried my bloodied body through the trees. My gait was poor and my run was more like a three legged-trot. I felt my blood dampen the fur on my hindquarters and the blood soak to my paw on my foreleg. I heard the hunters crashing through the trees behind me. They were getting closer and I had nowhere to hide. Before I knew it, I knew where I was running. And I was not happy. I ran into the clearing Where there was only one opening and that was where I had entered. There were brambles too thick to go through and a deadly river with water crashing over rocks an violently pushing downstream. I was trapped.
Upon waiting for my attackers, a black wolf with blue eyes jumped in through the entrance taking a possessive stance and awaiting the hunters. They approached us, while I grew more terrified than before. When the hunters reached us, the younger hunter of about 20 raised his rifle. My rescuer drew his lips to a snarl and let out a warning growl.
Out of nowhere, another wolf leapt from the brush and attacked the guy. The black wolf lunged towards the other hunter, and he then took off running. The hunter being attacked was let free by the yellow eyed gray and brown wolf. As the hunters fled, my saviors made their way to me.
When the shock kicked in, the world around me slowly turned to darkness.
When I came to, I was sitting in an unfamiliar den, trying to remember what happened before I fainted. I was in my human form, There were bandages wrapped around my arm and wrapped around the top of my thigh. My jacket was sitting in a pile next to the entrance of the den. I threw on my dark bootcut jeans and my leather jacket. Upon walking out of the den, I could tell that I was not within my territorial lines. The area was unfamiliar and I didn't recognize the scent.
There was a guy outside, starting a fire. He was tall, probably about 6 foot 3. He turned to look at me. His hair was a dark brown and brushed out of his face into what was almost a faux hawk. His cheeks were slightly chubby, which weren't proportional to his muscular body. He was definitely handsome.
He turned and saw me and his eyes widened in shock and then processed that I just came out of the den.
"You're finally awake" he said, with a hint of disbelief in his voice.
"Where am I? And who are you?" I asked.
"No 'thank you for saving my life'?" He teased.
"Not quite. I just want to go home and eat." I said.
"Well, I'm Colin," He said, aggravated,"This is the territory that my brother and I share. Speaking of him, Sam should be back any minute now with food." He eyed me up and down.
His eyes were bright blue. They were like the color of the sky on a clear fall day. He was obviously the wolf that attacked the hunters earlier. Shifters have the same eye color as their animal and his eye color was abnormal and definitely easy to remember. Shifters are humans who can change into wolves. Our eye colors remain the same in our wolf form. Many of us live on our own or away from humanity. Some shifters like to remain in packs like our ancestors, but many of us have turned away from the tradition. Humans have not discovered our existence, luckily. They call us "werewolves" and make up silly myths about us. Shifters are just people stuck between human and beast.
"I'm pretty sure I can get home myself and eat." I replied. I didn't want to stay any longer than I needed to.
"You are in no condition to trek all the way home. You can't defend yourself if trouble turns up either." Colin had a point. I couldn't just walk home with my leg like it is. Let alone, I didn't even know which way my cabin was.
"Alright, I'll stay. But only until I get better." I said.
He smiled. "Alright, well, first of all, I don't know your name."
"My name is Calla." I said reluctantly.
After that was said, A guy who I guessed was Sam walked into the clearing with a large sack in hand. By scent, it seemed to be rabbits. I hadn't realized how hungry I was until that scent hit my nose. Sam noticed my presence and stiffened. He looked at me in disbelief.
"How long have I been out?" I asked, not caring who answered. It's been happening all day, when they first saw me, it was like I was a ghost.
Colin held up three fingers.
"Three hours? Okay, not that bad I guess" I said relieved.
They looked at each other, with concerned looks on their faces.
"What? Three days? That's reasonable."
"I think you need to sit down for a second." Sam said.
"I am perfectly fine right here" I said, reluctant to sit down.
"Well..." Sam's eyes scanned my face for a reaction while he said the words "Calla, it's been three months."

Well hello there! I know, its a short chapter, but it'll get better, I swear. I have some questions for you.
What do you think will have happened in the three months that Calla was unconcious? How do you think the story is going? What are some things you would like to see happen in the story?
