After about... two weeks, my father is getting real fed up with these extra stallions. Limiting when we can see them and herding us away. Ashes herd doesn't help either, with his endless teasing and taunting. No horse knows how badly I want to kick that smug look on his face. The last time I saw that annoying little colt was three days ago, when he snuck past Wildfire and had a little 'chat' with me. All he talked about was when he grows up, and this, and that! I swear, one of these days, he is going to get a real, good kick to the face.
Wildfire watches every. Single. Move. He is too paranoid. Yeah, a stallion can be a little nervous every now and then, but he is jumpy and protective 24 hours, every day. This one time, he nearly took a chunk out of Kona's coat, thinking she was some random stallion. Speaking of her, Kona has actually beed hanging out with the other mares and talking more. She seems to be out of her 'depressed' phase.
Thunder slowly walks up to me, eyeing my father from the corner of his eye. Wildfire shoots his head up and glares at him. Thunder tilts his head down and faces away from the mean chestnut.
" I still think your dad hates me." He mutters. I nudge his shoulder, reaching over and scratching his withers. He stretches his neck and head out and curls his upper lip. He returns to my side and we start grooming each other. When he thinks that our time is up, Wildfire comes sauntering through us, without a care. On his way, he sends a kick Thunder's way. I reach over and nip his flank, he spins around, ears flat an pressed against his neck. Thunder steps in front of me and flattens his ears, pawing the ground before us. Jass whinnies from across the meadow, demanding Thunder to cut it out! He snorts in annoyance, walking away with his tail swishing. I turn to my father, stamping my hot and ears angling back. As I walk toward the creek, my mother follows.
" You shouldn't be giving your father attitude like that. He has the power to kick you out." I toss my mane and finish drinking the cool liquid. The sun has been beating down on us for a while now, and the flies are out and about, looking fro their next horse victim. My mother and I stand head to tail, swatting the flies from each other's faces. I look around and see Kona and Jass doing the same thing, just standing there with one leg cocked. I rest my eyes and cock up my back leg, just lazily standing there. After, I don't even know how long, my mother eventually walks off to graze, leaving me alone. So, Thunder takes the opportunity to talk.
" Hey, you." He nuzzles me, gently.
" Hi. Whats up?" I ask. He shakes his head to rid his eyes from those pesky flies.
" Just talking to you." He teases.
" So, have you talked to your father lately? He really is going to snap sometime and send you my father and I away." He continues. I grab a lock, of his now flowing mane, and tug on it playfully.
" No, sorry. I don't know what is causing this! I have a couple reasons in my head though."
" Like what?" He nickers, lowering his head to grab a mouthful of grass.
" Well, wether its the loss of my Grandsire, or Kayne's stallion herd. But, there is many more reasons my mother has talked to me about." His ears droop sleepily, and I feel my head start to fall closer to the ground. This heat sure is giving us some unwanted rays. Now feeling the dryness on my tongue, I start to walk to the creek, sipping the refreshing water. Thunder follows, lowering his head to make it look like he is drinking.
" I am going to go sometime tomorrow." I nearly choke on my water.
" What?!" I say in a forced whisper. He looks deep into my eyes, his brown orbs trying to search for any sign of understanding the 7 words that just slipped through his lips. I block him out and replace sadness with anger.
" No! You can't! You-" He cuts me off abruptly.
" Yes, I can. One of these days, Wildfire is just going to turn around and trample me gone. And I don't want that to happen," He steps forward and touches his nose to mine.
" And thats why I want you to come with me." I stare at him. What? I can't leave! My sire, dam, and my family is here. Honestly, I just think that with all this going on, he has just lost his mind.
" No! I can't. I can't leave."
" You can't stay either." He says.
" I mean-wait. Why can't I stay, Thunder?" I question him sternly.
" Look around, the only stallion left would be your father. And if he won't let you go, Ashes will take the chance and snatch you up. Another bachelor could come 'round and steal you. I don't want that to happen." Now I can understand why he wants me to come, he has changed my mind. I nuzzle him generously and look up, just to see the warm sun falling behind the mountains.
A cool breeze sweeps over the valley, matching the cold, blue night sky. The stars twinkle, their small lights lighting up the night. No moon tonight, just the stars. I look over at Thunder and nod, walking over to Willow. Her black and white coat standing out against the darkness. She nickers kindly to me, nudging my shoulder.
She doesn't know whats coming. She doesn't know that her precious, little filly will be leaving her in the morning. She licks my forehead and she scratches my withers.
" Goodnight, Roara." I snort, nipping her side playfully.
" Goodnight, mom."
