CHAPTER 2: Friend or Foe?

They all shouldered M16 Assault rifles and all wore dark brown camouflage as to blend in with the forest floor environment. They were a mixture of men and women and they all looked equally dangerous. One called out,

“Don’t move a freaking muscle you two.” That was fine with me, I was worn from the wave of emotions traveling through my body.

I wasn’t created for that much emotion at once.

“What should we do?” I whispered to Jake. He looked grim.

“I’d love to kill all of them but I think we could use a bed for the night,” he whispered back. I nodded slightly.

“Drop the weapons and my men will escort you to headquarters,” he yelled.

Jake and I looked at each other and shrugged. If they shot us it would take a storm of bullets to take us down. Even though I didn’t trust these guys Jake was right, we did need a bed for the night.

We tossed the guns at the guy’s feet and put our hands behind our heads. He signalled for three guys to take the weapons. One took Jake’s AA-12 and the other two carried the steaming minigun away.

The man walked over to Jake and slammed the butt of his rifle into his head.

Any normal man would have fallen at the blow but not Jake.

He smacked the rifle out of the man’s hand and spun him around so he was facing his comrades. At the same time, Jake grabbed his Bowe knife and held it against his neck while pinning his arms behind his back.

This all happen before the officer could even blink. Since he was in the line of fire, all the men and women focused their aim on me. I had to stop them before they started shooting.

“Look,” I said loud and clear, “we don’t want any trouble, we just want somewhere to eat and sleep for the night.” “No one has to get hurt.”

I looked at Jake. He had a trail of blood from where he had been hit, other than that he was fine.

“Did you see how easily he disabled your comrade here? Do you think we couldn’t have killed all of you? We chose not to because we need somewhere to stay for the night, then we can go and be out of your hair.”
