I lurch forward, barely able to stay afloat.
Double shit!
I sink to my knees, clutching my pounding head.
Damn it all! They've found me. The Light Forces have found me!
Their light pierces my darkened mind, their wrath slicing my sanity, and I nearly collapse from the sudden attack.
"We now have your location, Number 96. You cannot escape us." The voice that is supposed to be comforting to the Agents is like poison to me.
I smirk even though they can' see me. Or can they? That's a disturbing thought. "That's what you think," I tell them, "but that's where you're wrong. You see, word around the prison is: you guys have a detector of a sort and can be deactivated with enough mind power, and I think I might have enough." Not really sure if it works, but what he heck? Worth a shot right?
They hesitate. "We will send the Agent to where you are immediately, Number 96. You cannot deny the fact that you are an abomination to our peaceful world, and you must be kept contained."
I grit my teeth in anger. Me? An abomination? How dare they call me that? Evil lives in everyone, no? Even he purest have a drop of darkness.
"If you really think that, then I will just have to erase my location. I'm not going back there." I send my thoughts to their detector, which is not so cleverly hidden in the midst of their light.
As soon as my job's done, I get the dolphin (replacement for a certain curse word) out of their mind. Gosh, that hurt my mind. Huh? What's this? A small scrap of information. I read it, and I start to chuckle softly so no humans can hear. I see. I now know who their Agent here is. I should have known all along. Astral.
As the last of the piercing light subsides, I find that it's midday. How long have I been kneeling there? Looking around, I see that the shadows have shortened quite a lot. It's a wonder no one saw me.
A static buzzes noisily in my right ear. "What!?" I growl.
"Number 96, you're not supposed to be out right now. It's day, and any chap can see you if you're careless," Tar scolds.
I twitch in annoyance. Is he telling me what to do? Is he really? "You leave me there for many hours a day without any decent entertainment! How am I supposed to entertain myself! I'm tired of taking naps in the day, and I have nothing else to do!" By now, my anger is getting out of control. I am literally shaking with rage, my smoke-like aura flowing around my body. I feel my tentacles seeping out of my entire body, collecting and spreading on the floor.
Tar's voice is filled with fear at my anger. "P-please, Number 96, I don't mean to bore you. I just have a lot of work to do is all. Just please get back before-"
"I'll come back when I want to!" I snap, cutting him off in midsentence. "A human doesn't tell a Number Spirit what to do, rakai suru?" I use the Japanese word for "understand" to get my meaning clear. I cut off the connection and rip out the small communicator. There. That's the end of that.
I seethe in anger, not noticing the sun coming closer. When the light hits my left foot, I immediately jerk it back. So now I'm sensitive to sunlight. Just perfect. I curse softly in my language and take off to the next shadow.
I dart from shadow to shortening shadow, exploring the daytime world. One thing's for certain: the sun is such a pain in the ass! I can't step out of the darkness without getting burned. Well, now I know how "vampires" feel. I could be one if I wasn't already a demon myself.
