Calis's P.O.V.)
After I got off the phone with my dad, I heard Jake going through the glass sliding door and go outside. I smiled and went to my room to change.
After a few minutes of deliberation, I finally decided on the new hot pink bikini my best friend Ana got me for my birthday. With one look in the mirror, I realized just how tan it made me look. I regretted not wearing it to the pool party I went to a few weeks before. It wouldv'e impressed- then I realized I didn't care because I didn't want to impress anyone other than Jake. What was I thinking?
I put my hair up into a ponytail with a sigh, grabbed a towel, and headed outside. Jake was already in the water when I got out there. He smiled when he saw me.
"My dad said that I could invite some people over to celebrate tonight because him and your mom are going to be gone for a few days... as long as we cleaned up- and..." I hesitated. "Never mind."
"That sounds fun. Who are you going to invite?" I shrugged. "Too many friends? Popularity does have its downsides." He smirked. Of course he would know about that. I rolled my eyes with a small laugh, still thinking. "Hey, why don't you invite all those people we hung out with last summer?" Oh, please stop reminding me! "You know the one's who invited us to that bonfire?" He smiled remembering.
"Yeah, sure." I turned to lay my towel on the ground. "I said please," I muttered to myself. I laid down, planning to work on my tan before tonight. I started to think about laying on the beach that last- I jumped up. "I'm not ready for that yet- now stop!" I felt tears form in my eyes and knew that I was not ready for the feelings to come back yet. Then, I noticed Jake looking at me strangely. "Did I said that out loud." He nodded all though it wasn't really a question. He looked confused but I shrugged and he seemed to let it slide.
"Are you coming in the pool?" I looked up at him again.
"Do you want me too?" I asked with a smile.
"Yeah."
"Then no." I smiled wider.
"Please?"
"Nope."
"You are getting in this pool right now." I watched as he got out of the pool.
"No I'm not." He started to dry off.
"Yes you are." He was no longer dripping with water.
"Ha, make me." He smirked and I turned to head inside. I opened the door and heard him shut it behind me. I ran around the house and I think the only reason he couldn't get me was because I knew my house way better than he did. A few minutes later, I no longer heard him behind me. "Jake?" I looked around me slowly.
"Got ya!"
"Shit!" I yelped, scared.
He lightly tackled me to the ground so that he was barely hovering over me. He was so- close. His eyes were full of amusement. I could feel his warm breath on my face and I was letting my walls crumble. I struggled to keep them up, but I was failing terribly.
"Jake," I whispered. The amusement in his eyes transitioned into lust and the last of my walls crumpled and turned to ash. He rested his forehead against mine.
"Cali," He whispered. I could feel his friend against my leg. "Cali," he whispered again. "I'm gonna... I can't-" He started to pull away, but I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him back to me. He looked into my eyes and unable to resist, he kissed me. His kiss was better than I remembered. He took one arm and wrapped it around my waist- pulling me to him. I could feel his friend against my thigh. I traced one hand down his stomach as he began to kiss my neck.
"Jake," I breathed.
"Cali..." He moaned as my hand trace the bulge in his swim trunks. Something inside me clicked then, and I froze. "Too much?" He asked. I nodded. He tried to hide his disappointment as he rolled off of me, releasing me from his trance.
"I'm sorry, Jake. I'm just not ready yet, to admit to myself that I still love you..."
"But you do though right?" He was smiling up at the ceiling, his friend no longer so excited.
"Some things never change, Jake." He kissed my forehead and I smiled.
"I will feel that body of yours again, Cali, and you will moan my name again."
"Don't hold your breath," I said softly. He stood up but I stayed laying on the ground. Partly because I knew I would probably fall over- and because I would have to force myself not to drag him to my bedroom. I was being stupid, and I knew that.
"I will, Cali. I promise, if it's the last thing I do."
"How do you know that you'll still love me then?" He held out a hand and helped me off the ground. His smile was teasing.
"It's like you said. Some things never change, Cali." He leaned down and barely brushed his lips across mine. "Don't forget to call everyone." He grabbed his keys off the counter and headed for the door.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"I'm thirsty for a drink."
"We have-" I started, but he was already out the door and I realized what he meant.
I sank to the ground and wrapped my arms around my legs. It's gonna be okay... everything will fall into place. I knew that because everything always does... The question was when?
