                                                                             Footedness

Footedness is one of the aspects of laterality like handedness . It is the natural preference of one's left or right foot for various purposes such as applying the greatest force in a kick or stomp. Over 90% of right-handers are also right-footers. Only about half of the left-handers, however, are left-footed. Foot use does not require anything like the same level of motor control as hand use. In board sports, being left-foot dominant is termed goofy – a goofy-footed. But the term itself is often said to have originated with an eight-minute long Walt Disney animated short, called Hawaiian Holiday, that was first released to theatres in 1937. The colour cartoon stars the usual suspects: Mickey and Minnie, Pluto and Donald, and, of course, Goofy. During the gang's vacation in Hawaii, Goofy attempts to surf, and when he finally catches a wave and heads back to shore , he's standing with his right foot forward and his left foot back. If you're wondering if you might be goofy and would like to find out before hitting the beach, then imagine yourself at the bottom of a staircase that you're about to ascend. Which foot moves first? If you're taking that first imaginary step with your left foot, then it's likely that you're a member of the goofy-footed club. The perfect test for footedness is simple it isn't complicated as handedness, footedness is easily established by noting which foot is instinctively used to kick a ball. This test should be done unknowingly as errors might creep in.

                                                                             Eyedness

Eyedness is easy to test rather than handedness this aspect of laterality just like handedness & footedness. For target sports such as shooting and archery, it is important to determine your eye dominance when one is working on a technique for the first time. Athletes in other sports may rely on one eye too much for vision, meaning they would find it harder to see things towards the other side of the body. This is relevant for peripheral awareness (the ability to see objects in the peripheral of your vision). There are basic questions for you to be answered now, the first question is "Which eye do you use to wink?" second one is "Which eye do you use to look through the empty tube?". Try doing these then you can roughly say that if the eye which you used for the both of the tasks is same then you are that eyed, for example if you use right eye to do those both things then you are right eyed & vice versa. But if you don't do both with a same eye then you got to answer another question(try and answer). The above questions allow errors to creep but the question which is given below doesn't allow any of the errors until and unless you do it deliberately. Extend both arms in front of your body and place the hands together so as to make a small triangle between your thumbs and the first knuckle (see image).

With both of your eyes open, look through the triangle and focus on a specific small object which is a bit far from you. Close your left eye. If the object remains in view, you are right eye dominant. If your hands appear to move off the object and move to the left, then you are left eye dominant. With this test the result is recorded definitely as either left or right eye dominant, though with further investigation the level of dominance (weak or strong) can be determined. This test is particularly important for target sports such as archery and shooting, and hitting sports such as golf and baseball. It has been suggested that cross-dominance (in which the dominant eye is on one side and the dominant hand is on the other) is advantageous in sports requiring side-on stances (e.g. baseball, cricket, golf), though studies have not been able to confirm this. Being left or right eye dominant is like left and right handedness, though the side of the dominant eye and the dominant hand do not always match. Right eye dominant people should take part in all shooting sports as right-handed participants, and vice versa. 80% of the population are right footed and 70% are right eyed.

Approximate statistics:

Favouring right hand: 88.2%

Favouring right foot: 81.0%

Favouring right eye: 71.1%

Favouring right ear: 59.1%

Same hand and foot: 84%

Same ear and eye: 61.8%

However, we should perhaps expect handedness and "eyedness" to be independent of each other, as there is no real direct analogy between the two phenomena. Both hemispheres of the brain control both eyes, with each hemisphere processing a different half of the retina of each eye. Other, less important but nonetheless interesting aspects of laterality include hand-clasping and arm-folding. Hand-clasping can be demonstrated by quickly clasping your hands together, interlacing the fingers in what feels like the most natural way. About 60% of people, regardless of whether they are left-handed or right-handed, clasp their hands with the left thumb on top. Arm-folding also shows evidence of a type of handedness: when you fold your arms naturally, take note of which wrist is on top. Again, about 60% of the people fold their arms with the left wrist on top (and indeed find it quite difficult to do otherwise), and once again, it appears to be totally independent of either a person's handedness or their hand-clasping preference.

                                                                               Earedness

The condition or tendency to hear with one ear more than the other (in this context). Ear preference is quite effectively tested by noting which ear tends to be used to listen on a telephone. There are approximately 60% of the people favouring right ear. The tests which are officially made to test earedness is the instinctive testing ones actions and also mechanical checking of the listening to the sounds from different directions using one of the ear. Earedness is no way exactly related to handedness. According to to most of the surveys there are 62% of the people who have same dominant ear and same side dominant hand. Ear preference is not generally noted these days but one instinctively knows which ear is dominant for them as one uses that ear everyday to use their phones.

                                                                   Left handers in India

In india  there are more number of hindu's followed by other religions like muslim's etc, in hinduism almost all of the rituals are done only by using right hand. Its a strict rule in the religion or atleast people say that. Left hand is not allowed to use in many poojas, aarti's etc. Most of the left handed people use their left hand to do most of their daily chores it makes their left hand stronger when compared to right hand, so in most of the rituals using their as usage of left hand is strictly restricted (parents scold children if they use their left hand) they have to use their right hand which causes lot of pain to them. In many parts of the country left-handers are often punished badly for the use of left hand and they are even forced to use right hand. There were many cases where children were badly treated and punished brutally to use their left hand for writing in some cases the left-handers were made to leave schools. Most of the left handers get bullied by the society and even friends the attitude that people show towards left handers in india is not acceptable to certain limits. Many objects, things that we use daily such as scissors, spiral books, guitars tailored for lefties are very scarcely available in India compared to most of the other countries. Left handers face a huge difficulty to find their products especially which are used in sports. We cant do anything in the case of rituals but we should be aware enough to stop treating left-handers brutally just because they don't use their right hand. These days few students who are left-handers are creating awareness by forming group & are performing many awareness programs supporting lefties & explaining their world to others.
