Mahiru's POV:

I was walking down the sidewalk on the street. I planned on grabbing some milk since my uncle and I were running low. Suddenly I felt a strange presence behind me. I turned and saw someone walking the opposite way. It was the same hoodie/shirt as that kid in the window at school.. I suddenly turned to the window he was walking by and saw an evil looking shadow and my eyes grew wide. It was saying something.

"..hiru! Mahiru?!"

My body shot up and I looked at who was saying my name.

"Dang, man! Have you gone into space?? You were just looking at your desk for like 5 minutes, hahahaha!" laughed a kid with short blonde hair.

"Was I? Sorry. And quit laughing, Ryusei! -_-"

That was weird. I never space out, and especially not when class is about to start.

"Jeez, well I was trying to say that apparently our science project is coming up. And since you always keep things simple I was gonna guess what project you plan on doing."

I blinked. That's right, our teacher is going to assign us a partner from the class to work on a project for science.

"Actually, I don't know what I'm going to do yet because I have to decide with my partner, y'know if they want to."

He sighed. "I hope my partner's not someone who's going to slack off all the time.."

I shrugged. "Personally, I don't care if they don't help. It's more simple with just one person working on it than having to split up work."

He gave me a smile.

"That's Mahiru for ya."

I smiled back.

"By the way, where's Koyuki?"

He put his hand on the back of his neck and sighed.
"Apparently he was sick all weekend and today, but hopefully he'll be here tomorrow for the teacher to assign him a partner."

"That sucks."

Ryusei blinked and tilted his head.

"Are you kidding? He's lucky he gets to stay home from school. And if he's really lucky he'll get the teacher as a partner if there's no one left."

"I guess you're right, but he's probably in pain if he's sick right?"

"Yeah, that's true."

Suddenly the door opened and in walked the teacher.

"Quiet! I'm going to assign you your partners now, since you all probably are su~per excited to do work."

Everyone groaned except a few people, including me.

I ignored everyone else's partners until I heard my name.

"Mahiru and Sado."

I stood up and looked around for my partner. He was also standing. He had short black hair and a piercing. He looked as if he could care less about class.

We both sat back down and continued class.

"The only one left with no partner is Kuro. He'll have to partner with Koyuki when he comes back to school. Until then, plan the project on your own, Kuro."

Kuro? Who's that? I looked at the back of the room and saw him. The kid with that hoodie shirt. He had blue hair and cold eyes that almost caused me to shiver. He also looked like he didn't care.
Wait..
Was he about to fall asleep?

I rolled my eyes and looked back at the teacher.

-Timeskip: End of the school day-

As I walked down the hall I saw a group of kids, including Sado, surrounding the guy named Kuro. He looked as bored as ever.

"You think you're cool like me, huh? Stop acting like you're the best around, bastard." Sado growled.

Kuro just stood there with his eyes half closed. Is he crazy?

I continued walking. Getting involved would just make things complicated, and that's something I would never want.

When I got home I checked the fridge to see if I was really running low on milk. It was almost empty... whatever, I'll just get more on the way home from school of tomorrow.

I'll try to ask Sado if he's going to work on the project with me or not.
