Mahiru's POV:

The next day at school I slowly approached Sado in the classroom.

"Sado." I said.

He turned and looked at me like he was fuckin Donald Trump after having his wall built.

"What, loser?"

"Em.. can I ask what you want to do for the project?"

"What project?"

"...the science one that we got partnered for just yesterday..."

He blinked and smirked.

"Pshh of course I know about it. You do it, I have a party to host so I don't have time for dumb crap like school."

"OK" I replied simply.

He looked surprised and then rolled his eyes to continue talking to the other idiots.

I walked over to my desk and listened to Ryusei and Koyuki(who wasn't sick anymore) talk.

"I wonder what Kuro is like. I hope he doesn't let you fend for yourself Koyuki. He's looks like he's worse than Sado in some ways."

Koyuki just looked nervously at Kuro who was sleeping at his desk. He seemed to have a bruise on his cheek. Maybe he got into a fight with Sado and that's why he was looking all high and mighty.

"Sigh, if he doesn't I'll just have to help you Koyuki." I stated.

"A-are you sure?"

I nodded with a serious look on my face. He smiled with relief.

"Thank you so much Mahiru!"

After class ended I walked through the hall to make my way home.

"You still haven't learned your lesson, emo boy?!"

I turned and saw Sado, who was once again surrounding Kuro. Is this guy obsessed with picking on other people?

Kuro simply shrugged. Sado growled and started screaming nonsense. Obviously someone had anger issues.

Then Sado clenched his fist and prepared to land a hard blow to Kuros' face.

Damnit.
I quickly dropped my bag and ran through his gang and grabbed Sado's arm.

"This won't solve anything! Can't you see Kuro couldn't care less if you keep picking on him or not?! He's not changing the way he is just to please you!"

Kuro's eyes widened and actually sparkled for a moment. They were soft and looked warm, but he quickly regained his cool.

Sado looked pissed.

"Why the hell would you defend him?! You peace of trash!"

Sado took back his arm and prepared to punch Mahiru. Kuro prepared to fight him off.

"Sado Arakawa!" yelled an adult-sounding voice.

He froze and looked to see his teacher with his arms crossed.

"Go to the principle's office. Now."

Sado growled in fury and stomped towards his destination.

"Everyone go home unless you want to a detention for a week!"

Everyone walked off, including me and Kuro. I ran up beside him and attempted to talk to him.

"Hey Kuro?"

He looked at me with his usual bored expression and his face changed to a different expression I've never seen him have before.

"Um.. thanks I guess.. but I'd rather you stay out of it."

I sighed.

"I should have but my body sort of.. moved on its own? I don't know why."

He continued to look forward.

"Well, cya."

"Wait, can I ask why you don't make friends in class?"

"Because I don't need any."

Something about this bothered me. It's always complicated when someone doesn't fit in with the rest of the class.

"C'mon, let me be your friend."

There it was. His eyes were the same as when I tried to help him earlier. I know why I want to help him now.

But his eyes shifted into an even colder look and I almost shuddered.

"No."

"...please?"

He didn't answer.

"Fine. But I'm not giving up easily. It bothers me to have someone who doesn't fit in!"

He rolled his eyes and continued walking down the sidewalk, and I stopped because my house was the other way.

"Have fun with that." He yelled while he kept walking.

I frowned. Another challenge no one wants to take on? Fine, I'll have to do it.
