SPOILERS FOR SEASON ONE OF THE ANIME

|| Third person ||

"Marco...." Jean whispers to himself as he stares at want remains of his boyfriends face. His body has been split completely in half, his entire right side gone. All the memories and knowledge stored in the right half of his brain, gone. All the little scratches and freckles on his right arm, gone. Every step that his right foot has ever taken, gone. All the times Jean has placed his left hand on Marco's face to press his forehead to his, gone.

Jean drops to his knees beside Marco's corpse, he pulls down the piece of cloth covering his nose and mouth. The thought that no one saw how Marco died played on Jeans mind. No one knows if he killed 50 Titans before he was killed or if his gear broke and was caught helpless at the wrong time. Hell, nobody even heard his last words or the last step he took, the last time he smiled, the last time he kissed the one he loved.

Jean once prided himself on his strength and wits, how he could be insulted, beaten and laughed at but never showed how he felt. None of that mattered, a reputation is nothing when your best friend, your boyfriend is lying dead at your feet. The salty tears streaming down his face meant nothing and everything all at the same time. It shows that he's human, that he has emotion he can show the world, that's nothing. It also means everything, it means he's lost his battle, he's lost his most loved, he's lost what it means to be strong, he's lost his Marco.

"Can you ID this one?" Commander Nial Dok asks him like it was a question you'd be asked in class. Treated like it was a test question, so easy to ask but so hard and painful to answer. "Kid?"

"Yes" he forces out and wipes his eyes with the cloth that hangs around his neck. He chokes out "Marco Bodt, military police"

"Alright then, you know the boy?" He asks writing down the details Jean told him.

"He's- he was m-my best friend" Jean stutters, removing a piece of toned paper from his chest pocket. He then reaches over to Marco's pocket, hands shaking he notices how cold he's become. He removes a piece of paper identical to the one Jean had on his person. On each piece is a painted picture of Jean and Marco with their arms wrapped around each others shoulders. "I painted them so-" he stops himself before revealing too much about their relationship.

The commander nods and carries on walking past him. Jean checks his six before proceeding to take Marco's hand, flinching at the coldness. It's still the same hand that he remembers, the one he felt for the first time and the one he's holding now. He reminisces on the last time they snuck out of the bunk room...

"Jean, if anyone finds us we're as good as gone" Marco tells him worriedly. It's not enough to make Jean release the grip he has on his warm right hand as they run behind the building. Marco looses his footing trying to step over a rock but instead falls right into Jeans arms.

"Careful, babe. Wouldn't want you hurting yourself, would we?" Jean says tilting his head up with two fingers. He sniggers and slowly brushes his left hand through Marco's ebony hair. His hand comes down his neck and stays there as Jean presses his lips against Marcos. They break their lips apart as Marco stands up, using Jeans wide shoulders as support.

"Have I ever told you I love you?" Marco asks, his cheeks turning red. He takes Jeans right hand and interlocks his left around it. He uses his free hand to push Jeans back against the stone wall of the supplies shed, he raises his right hand causing Jeans to follow. He bends his elbow so both their arms are pressed against the wall.

"I think you might have mentioned it a few times" Jean replies pulling his arm back down but keeping their hands locked together. Marco extends his left arm so his palm his flat against the wall beside Jeans head, forcing Jean to look up at him. Marco uses his thumb on his right hand to brush the back of Jeans hand that's wrapped around his own. He challenges "But how do I know you're not playin' me, Bodt?"
