~Chapter 22~

Jin's POV

Barney and I were walking in the forest.  I was focused on the path ahead of us. I can smell the salt water from here. The boat is close.

"Ugh, Jin whens are we gettings there?" Barney asked me agitated.

"Soon."

"But Jin, we haves been walkings forever..." Before he could finish, we reached a opening. We kept walking, and the muddy grass started to turn into sand.

"I told you we were close Barney."

"Ugh, whatevers." He said in his accent. We kept going until we reached the end of the sand. We look up and we see our wooden boat. Our sail is still there at least. I start to climb the boat, waving to Barney to follow me. Once we reach the deck, I start to go to the under part of the boat. Since the boat is fairly big, me and Barney split up. I go to the right side of the boat, and he goes to the left. I start to search the first room on my right, when I hear a scream. It sounded like Barney.

I started to rush towards the left side of the boat. When I was about to reach the first room, I heard a whisper.

"Dence child. Little child. Your friend is dead...."

I started to panic. Is he really dead? Am I going crazy? I to the door. I slowly twist the rustly doorknob. The door creeked as it opened. I started to poke my head in. I saw a trail of blood on the floor. I quickly open the door all of the way and step in.  My eyes widen, taking in what was in front of me.

I fall on my knees, mortified. There was a pile of blood. And laying there was Barney.

I start to yell. How did this happen? Who did this? I start to shake, my mind in a state of grief and panic. I hear the voice again.

"Silly child. Sad child. Run while you can."

I get up still mortified, and I run out of the room as fast as I could. Then I remembered.

The antidote.

I quickly run to the right side of the ship, and I grab the medicine. I run up the stairs leading to the deck, my black hair flowing behind me.

Once I reach the deck, I jump off the boat onto the shore. I land on my arm, hurting it, but there's no time for that. I get up, tripping on my way, and I sprint towards the forest.

I don't stop running until I see the outline of the camp. I come running out from the shadows, covered in Barney's blood, sweat, and tears. Sky gives one glance at me, and has a worried face. He runs up to me. He tries to ask me if I'm okay, and where's Barney. My brain is in a state of such greif I can't speak correctly.

"B-barney...death...antidote...here..." Then I fall on my knees, dropping the medicine. Sky has a confused face, as he tries to figure out what I was trying to say. He helps me up.

"What happened to Barney, Jin?" My pupils go small remembering what I had witnessed earlier.

"He's dead."

~Time skip~

Sky's POV

"So that's what happened...Jin is in the other tent resting right now."

"WHAT? H-how could that be....?" She asks me with saddness written on her face. She starts to cry, so I hug her.

"Shhh...it's okay Jess..." I comfort her. She pulls away, still crying.

"D-does Ross know?"

"Yes...I told him just before you woke up..." She looks at him with sad eyes.

"Is he okay...?"

"...he's just in a grieving state right now."

"Where is he?"

"I think he's by the campfire..."

"Thanks Sky..." Then she starts to head towards the campfire looking sad.

I watch her go, and I sigh. I guess I should go see Jin.

I fix my eyes on the tent next to ours. I start to head over there. Once I get to the opening, I unzip it slowly. I see Jin sleeping peacfully on the ground. There are pills there that I gave him to help him sleep. He didn't even have to ask for them. After witnessing that...no one could sleep.

I pick up the pills, and put them in our medical kit. Then I feel a sudden burning feeling on my back. I sigh out of pain, and I grab my meds to help with the rash I have on my back. I carefully count out the pills, and I swallow them.

I then look back at Jin, and he is thrashing a bit in his sleep. I look at him with tired eyes, and I leave the tent. I glance at Jess and Ross talking at the campfire, and go back to our main tent. I go inside, and I cover myself with a wooly blanket. I roll on my side, facing the back of the tent. I stare at the dark green tent for a while until I fall asleep.

Jess's POV

After Sky told me about Barney, I left the tent to find Ross. I can't even comprehend what he told me. I walk slowly to the dying campfire. I see Ross sitting on the log that we were sitting on last night. I blush a little, and I go up to him. He looks up at me, but looks at the ground with tears in his eyes right away so I wouldn't see. I slowly sit down next to him. I can see that he is hurting.

"It's my fault." I look at him, and I see pain in his eyes.

"No it's not, Ross."

"Yes it is. I'm the one that made them get the medicine..."

"You couldn't have possibly knew that this could've happened..." He looks at me with tears in his eyes. Then his facial expression turned grateful.

"Thanks, Jess...I was just being stupid..." He puts his hands on his face.

I put my arm on around him, and rest my head on his shoulder. I stare at the fire. What a day.
