Kate was sitting at the edge of her bed with her hands in her lap and shaking from terror. She could not bring her self to even blink because she was that frightened of seeing the merman's face again. Not once has she had such an outbirst. When she was younger Kate used to suffer from vivid nightmares of that night. She would re-live that moment every night for three years. Allison always jumped into bed with her and would comfort her whilst she slept. When she stopped having the nightmares and she no longer needed Allison's comfort Allison no longer made any effort with her sister.

Adrian was sat in the corner of the room with his eyes intensly locked to Kates. His unnatural blue eyes were making Kate feel uncomfortable. The fact that they remind her so much of that merman from that day at the lake. Yet that was just a figment of her childhood imagination, wasn't it? She would always try and tell herself that but she knew deep inside it wasn't true. There wasn't really a merman there was there? Merpeople are just apart of fairytales, made up to children so they won't have to find out how dull the world really is. What if those stories were written by people's experiances with contacting merpeople?

Allison knelt down in front of Kate and tried to place a comforting hand on her little sister. As soon as Kate felt the slightest touch from Allison she moved her hands away. The slightest touch made Kate think of the contact with that merman.

"I think I should go." Adrian mumbled.

Before he could get up from his seat Allison got to her feet and barked. "You are going no where! Now, I do not know what you did to my little sister but you are not going to get away with this." She turned back to Kate and her eyes turned soft. "Did he try to force himself on you?"

"Allison! For God sake!" Kate barked. She could feel herself growing more frustrated.

"Did he? Because you wouldn't scream for nothing."

"Adrian didn't do anything!" Kate felt like she needed to protect Adrian, for a reason she does not understand. Perhaps she is sick of Allison acting like she is sister of the year where she is actually the complete oposite. "We were joking around, I fell of the bed and hit my head. That is all." Kate has never lied, not even to get a day off school. She has always been honest but Adrian seems to bring out the worst in her. She desparatly wanted to get to know Adrian, afterall it isn't his fault that she freaked out. If she told her big sister the truth then it would only bring up their past and Allison telling her sister that it was all in her imagination.

Kate wishes she could have a bond with her sister. That she could feel comfortable telling her things and confide in her. Yet she can't do that. Kate knows that Allison blames her for the death of their parents. She has never said so but in her eyes she knows.

"I will not tolerate being lied to Kate," Allion glares at Kate, her brunette hair is wild around her face like a lions maine.

"I will not tolerate my sister acccusing my guest of such ridiculous things. Which you also have no proof of." Kate gets to her feet and storms beside Adrian who has not said a word since Allison took over. "We have a report to finish so if you would be so kind as to get out!" Kate has never had such attitude before, her and Allison have had many arguments but non where Kate has used attitude.

"You can finish your report at school, he is not staying here." Allison points an accusing finger at Adrian. He doesn't seem to acknowledge what is going on, he looks to be way too caught up in fasination between Kate and Allion's argument. Like he is studying a caveman's lifestyle.

"What are you going to do? Throw him out?" Kate raises an eyebrow because she knows her sister would never have the courage to do that.

"If it comes to that then yes."

Kate rolled her eyes. Fed up by this argument and grabs her purple jacket from her closet and zips it to the top.

"What are you doing?" Allion barks.

"Since you won't let him stay we're going out." Before Allison could protest Kate linked her fingers through Adrian's ice cold hand and pulled him out of her bedroom. They run out of the house with Allison yelling back for them at the front door. Kate ignores every word her sister says.

They stop in the middle of the park in hysterics. Kate stretches out her arms wide like a majestic angels' wings. Her smile is as big as it has ever been before. She spins around in the same spot and embraces the wind hitting against her face. "I have never felt so alive!" she exclaimed.

This is out of character for Kate. She is the kind of the girl to sit back and watch the world get along. She never embraces her life but right now she feels full of energy and happier than she has ever been. She finally said things she was desparate to get off her chest and Adrian has give her the confidence to say what she wants.

She stops in her tracks and is facing Adrian. He looks inspired by her movement and his eyes are studying her whole body. Kate would normally slap a boy for studying her but she wants Adrian to notice her. She finds him interesting and for him to look at her like she is a piece of artwork sends a chill up her spine.

Out of no control of her own she walked over to Adrian and wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his broad chest. He did not return her hug he was unsure of what to do. Kate was standing there and smiling with her arms around him.

After a countless amount of minutes of Adrian allowing her to hug him, Kate pulled away and watched his face with wide and curious eyes. "Haven't you ever hugged someone before?"

Adrian looked to the ground as if he is hiding something. It is hard to tell where his iris starts because his blue eyes are so light. His pink lips were in a straight line showing no sign of emotion. Perhaps that is the problem, no one had shown him how to show emotion.

Kate cautiously moves her hand to his face. Her fingers gently press against his strong jaw line, his skin is still freezing to the slightest touch. Adrian shoots his head up and his eyes immideatly lock with Kate's. The corner of her mouth curves into a small smile, she feels like she is the only one who can get through to Adrian. Since she has never seen him even look at another person.

She flutters her eye lashes until they gently close. She purses her lips and leans in to kiss him.  Her heart is pounding a thousand miles per hour. She has kissed the occasional boy but nothing has ever made her heart race this much before. Then a cold hand pushes back her shoulders. Kate's eyes fly open to see Adrian is looking at someone behind her. He looks full of fear, his mouth is slightly open and his eyes are wide. Kate has never seen anyone so frightened.

She began to look over her shoulder until Adrian pulled her by the arms forcing her to look at him. Her hands began shaking as she doesn't know what's going on or who is behind them. "Do not turn around." He said, darkly.

"What's going-"

"Don't say a word," he snarled. "Run away from here. I don't care where you go just keep on running and do not look back!" His eyes are on her and serious.

Without another word Kate nods her head in agreement. She started off walking then she picked up her speed and ran away from the park. She was tempted to look back then she thought of Adrian's tone and how serious he was about her not to turn around. What could possibly be behind her or who?
