One quick step [ Mer/Der]

Chapter 3

Meredith put her scrubs and lab coat in a bag and walked up to the cafeteria. She saw Derek sitting at a table and walked up to him. '' I'm just going to go grab some coffee? you want anything?'' she asked as she placed her bag on the chair. '' Uh.. yes a coffee would be nice'' nodded Derek. Meredith returned after a few minutes with two coffee's and placed them on the table. '' Thanks'' smiled Derek, as he wrapped his hands around the mug. '' So you wanted to talk? Does this mean you have found a solution?'' asked Derek. '' Yes, i have. I just got a new job.. here. Which obviously means that i will be moving here'' stated Meredith. '' Oh wow, thanks.. i guess? How are we going to go further now?'' asked Derek. '' We could go to a park, or come over for dinner once i find a place.'' suggested Meredith. '' Okay, when will you find a place?'' asked Derek. '' I'm looking at two places tomorrow, so if one of those seems good i'll have the keys by the end of the week'' stated Meredith, '' That's quick'' replied Derek. Meredith nodded. '' You could come with us to diner tonight'' suggested Meredith after a while of both of them sipping coffee. '' Really? that sounds nice'' nodded Derek '' Come to the hotel at 7, i'll text you the adres of the hotel'' stated Meredith. " Yes, sure!" smiled Derek, Meredith clearly noticed that she had lifted his spirits with this suggestion. " I'm going to head back to the hotel, see you tonight" smiled Meredith before standing up and leaving.

Meredith arrived at the hotel 10 minutes later, still thinking about how she was going to tell Emma about Derek. She entered her hotel room, and sat down on the bed next to Emma, whom was playing with her barbie dolls.  " Em, honey.. Can you come sit next to me?" asked Meredith. Emma nodded and sat up, " So i ran into an former friend of mine, he was a really .. good friend, and as you know to have a baby you need a bit of a man and a women. Well that bit of a man, was his, which means that he is your dad" sighed Meredith, she wanted to mentally slap herself for phrasing  it this weird, but well there isn't really a right way to te something this big anyway. Emma just looked surprised, her bright blue eyes staring into Meredith's " really?" asked Emma, Meredith wasn't sure if she was happy or sad. "What is his name? Can i meet him? He was a surgeon too right? " asked Emma, " His name is Derek, and if you want to we can go to dinner with him tonight, and yes he fixes peoples brains" rattled Meredith. '' Yes okay'' nodded Emma, Emma grabbed her stuffed teddy bear and hugged it tightly. '' Why have you never told me anything about him?'' she asked, her big blue eyes slightly watering. '' I never knew how to, and you never asked me about your dad, so i wasn't sure if you even wanted to know'' sighed Meredith as she softly brushed her hand through Emma's hair.  '' I didn't want to be annoying'' responded Emma. '' Honey, you are not annoying, you can always come to me'' smiled Meredith as she wrapped her arms around Emma. '' I love you mommy'' sighed Emma as she snuggled up closer to Meredith. '' I love you more'' smiled Meredith.

Meredith and Emma stood outside of their hotel, waiting for Derek that night. Emma was holding her teddy bear tightly in her arms.  '' I hope Mr. Bear likes Derek'' she said as she grabbed Meredith's hand. '' I hope so too'' smiled Meredith.  A car stopped in front of them, and Derek got out. '' That's him'' whispered Meredith as she squeezed into Emma's hand. Emma let go of Meredith's hand and walked up to Derek. '' Hey, i am Emma'' she said, '' Hello'' smiled Derek '' I'm Derek'' he said as he shook Emma's hand. '' This is Mr.Bear'' she said as she held her teddy bear high up, Derek grabbed the bear and started talking in a very low voice '' Hello Mr.Bear, i am Derek. How lovely to meet you'' he said. Meredith couldn't help but laugh as she watched them.  Meredith's laugh made Derek look up '' Hey there'' he said, Meredith waved her hand in a greeting. '' Shall we get going then?'' he said, as he opened the door of the car.  Meredith and Emma both got in, '' What kind of restaurant are we going?'' asked Emma from the backseat. '' To a restaurant where they have fries and chicken nuggets'' responded Meredith. ''CHICKEN NUGGETS'' shrieked Emma '' So does this mean we're going to Mc Donalds?'' added Emma. Derek and Meredith laughed '' No Emma, we're not'' chuckled Meredith as she turned around to face Emma.

They sat down at a table in the restaurant and received their menu's. '' i want chicken nuggets'' stated Emma '' Haha that's okay, i'm taking the steak'' stated Meredith as she closed her menu '' A fish filet for me'' said Derek as he too closed his menu.  Derek couldn't stop watching Emma, she looked so much like him. '' So Emma, what do you like to do?''  asked Derek, '' I like to eat nuggets, and play with my dolls. I also like to draw and play with mommy and auntie Lexie'' smiled Emma as she drank some of her apple juice. '' Auntie Lexie? do you have a sister?'' asked Derek as he turned towards Meredith. '' Yes, when i moved, i moved to the village where my dad lived, and met Lexie. We get along great'' smiled Meredith '' It took some time'' she added. '' That sounds lovely'' smiled Derek. Meredith nodded, and watched Derek talk with Emma for a while again. About school, and her friends and their home.  Their food arrived and they ate in silence.  

'' Thanks for this'' smiled Derek, as he placed a kiss on Meredith's cheek after dinner. Meredith nodded and smiled. Derek hugged Emma, and Meredith and Emma went into their hotel. '' Why didn't you marry him? he is very nice?'' asked Emma, it was the first thing she said since they got in the car. '' That's a long story baby, not a story for today. Let's get you in to bed'' smiled Meredith as she ruffled Emma's thick blonde hair. '' I love you'' smiled Meredith, '' I love you too, Mommy'' responded Emma before closing her eyes.
