Neetu's POV:
"Neetu... now kick the bowl of rice inside the house slowly and step in the plate of red water."
You must be thinking what I am doing right now. Well... After mamma approved mine and Laksh's relationship and accepting Neelima aunty and family, grandma called the priests and arranged an auspicious day for welcoming me into my in-law house which is now my house also... as a new family member.
The day for my welcome was set after six days of our mission day. So, here I am, doing the rituals of a newly wedded wife. I was dressed in a heavy sari my mamma gifted and lots of jewellery which are from grandma, Neelima aunty, mamma and few of them is Laksh mothers'. It is quite suffocating but still needs to bear it for some time.
After entering the house filled the house with my red colour water footprints, there is a bowl of milk with rose petals in it in the middle of the living room.
Grandma: Now... Neetu – Laksh you need to put each of your hands inside the bowl and search for the ring.
We started searching for the ring when suddenly Laksh caught my hand inside the liquid bowl. Since the liquid bowl covered our hands above the wrist it is hard for the people to know what is going on inside. He keeps tickling my palm with his lean fingers. I sucked in my breath and my mouth went dry when I saw Laksh smirking at me.
Oh!!! Laksh... What if someone sees this?
He took the advantage of our bodies being too close to each other and slowly ran his other hand on my stomach...
Oh God... Laksh is going to embarrass us. Stop it Laksh!!!
Just as his other hand which is on my stomach is slowly inching upside...
Grandma: Both of you.... Can you please stop playing around and just complete the ritual and carry on with what all you are doing in your bedroom. Laksh leaves her hand which you caught. Just a few more rituals and we are not going to keep both of you away from each other. Huh... And also Laksh!!! also take your other hand from her waist.
Grandma was smirking all the while teasing Laksh. I was so embarrassed for what all happened, but Laksh seems to be fine with getting embarrassed in front of all the family members and in return gave an even more wide smirk to grandma.
Teasing and all apart but I am so happy to be able to live with Laksh as his wife like I always wanted.
I regret not fighting for my love when I came across a huge hurdle but I would do the same if I had to again. My mamma always used to say that "Nothing is just you in your life Neetu... you are just a part of your life where others in your life make your life a complete you"
Whenever I remember this certain quote mamma used to tell me, I understand how important our loved ones in our life can give us meaning and happiness.
I came out of my thoughts when finally after searching for whole five minutes, I could feel a cold metal ring under my fingers. I brought it out with a big smile and asked Laksh put on the ring for me on my finger since I loved it so much. It is a simple and cute ring.
Neelima: Neetu darling... this specific ritual has a meaning. The one who gets the ring out of the bowl will have the upper hand in their relationship.
Me: Really aunty!!! But then the ring should be in Laksh's hand since he always does the decision making in our relationship.
Why is Laksh smirking at me after hearing me? Why is everyone releasing exasperated sighs?
