Goodbye, Mihael

You can't breathe. Or rather, all oxygen entering your body now seems to be unable to go through easily. Opening your mouth to say something - anything, as an excuse - you are cut off by Mello, who throws your phone down in irritation.

< Agent _____? You were working for the FBI this entire time? >

He says your real name with complete spite that causes you to wince. You would do anything to hear Mello say Peggy again with the adoration he once had for you. The same adoration you still have for him. Nodding, you feel tears gather at the back of your eyes. No... You can't show such weakness in front of him. Not that you are playing a part anymore. You aren't Peggy, the partner of a Mafia mastermind. You're just the very same FBI agent who came to the Mafia; scared, alone and upset.

< To think that I trusted you as well! Honestly, this humiliation is unbearable... >

You... You can trust me! Your voice croaks under the strain of a potential emotional breakdown. Nothing you can say now will resolve anything, yet you are clutching at straws in reality. All you want is to be in that passionate, heat-of-the-moment kiss you shared less than a few minutes ago. And to never come out from it.

< How? How can I fucking trust you when you have landed the Mafia in absolute chaos? Thanks to you, we are going to be raided! The least you could have done is warned me that this would happen... If you were actually in love with me. >

Shaking your head, the tears are beginning to fall, I didn't know! I would have told you, Mello! You try and hold on to him, though he pushes you away, sliding off the bed and pacing to the door, his hand wrapped tight around the handle.

< Yeah right... Besides, even if you weren't aware about the raid, you are fully aware that you're spying on us. You could have told me you were working for the FBI; sure, I'd have been pissed, but at least I wouldn't have felt betrayed like this! I loved you Peg- no wait, _____, but obviously I was foolish enough to see through your acting! >

Right now, you realise, you would greet death with open arms. Despite it being a little dramatic, knowing how much you have hurt the one you love feels so terrible. Terrible enough for you to want to end your life here and now.

< Anything else you've need to tell me? Any other information that might be useful? >

Mello is sneering, and your mind suddenly reminds you of the pregnancy test. Pregnant... Should you tell him? What if he becomes angrier than he is now? What if he gets violent? You are lucky now that Mello hasn't aimed his gun at you yet, something you've seen him do on so many other people who frustrate him. However, you need to prove you can be trusted... And it is his child after all... I'm-

Suddenly, sirens blare throughout the warehouse, indicating that the building has been raided. You watch as Mello scowls and flings the door open, before glaring at you with those dark blue eyes of his, reminding you of the deepest part of the ocean. An ocean you could very easily drown in. An ocean you already have drowned in.

< Are you just going to stand there? Get out of here! Flash a fancy FBI badge around or something so they don't shoot you... Just go! >

From his tone, it sound as though Mello is more concerned about your life rather than your faults right now. Whether or not that is the case, you dash past him, knowing as well as he does that you won't survive by gawking at him. You sprint out into the main room, and crash through the door. A gloved hand grabs your shoulder and you quickly turn around. The man is in a helmet, although the visor is up. He looks too young to be working with the Task Force yet you manage to stutter FBI and pull out your license.

< Come on, Matsuda! We don't have all day! >

Another man calls out to Matsuda, who lets you go without questioning your presence. You nod in thanks before continuing to running out on to the street, panting hard. You are fit by all means, but you've never felt so scared before. Scared for someone else. How was Mello going to manage? Did he feel frightened too? No, this was Mihael Keehl you are talking about. He would be alright... He had to be.

You stop finally, letting you knees buckle so you are lying down on this empty street. Aware of how tired you are, you have to pinch yourself in order to stay awake. You can't just fall asleep now. Certainly not here. Additionally, you need to wait until you can go back inside and apologise to Mello. For being a bad girl.

Suddenly, you hear a loud bang, and you feel the ground beneath you vibrate. Was that...? You don't even want to think about what just happened, yet you force yourself to sit up and look behind you. Blinking, it takes you a moment to realise that the reason why you can no longer see the warehouse is because, as your suspicions confirmed, the entire building was caught in an explosion. You will never know who caused it or why, but one thing is for certain; Mello was likely to be dead. In agony, you scream his name, crying raw and loud.
