It was the usual day at the Curtis house. The whole gang was over watching Mickey Mouse and talking when suddenly we heard the sound of pounding footsteps and the screeching of car tires against pavement. A girl ran up the steps and through the door slamming it behind her. She slide down against the wall, one foot up against her chest and the other stretched out. Soda pop was about to question her when she held a finger up to her mouth and gave him the death glare. It shut him up immediately. We all stayed quiet watching her. She sat there listening.
"Where the hell did that thieving cunt go!"Roared a Soc. She smiled still listening.
"We'll find her Randy then we'll skin her alive. Dumb greaser bitch..." They got back in they're car and sped away. The girl stood up. She was quite the looker. She had a curvy body with clothes that hugged it. Her brown, wild, curly hair was down and a flannel was tied around her waist. Her black jeans were torn and black tank top wrinkly. She slowly stood up and looked out of the window.
"Well gentlemen, thank you for aiding me in my time of need, but I must be going now. This 20 dollars won't spend itself. She pulled out the Socs wallet we suspected she stole. She stared to walk out the door when Darry grabbed her wrist from the couch.
"Wait who are you?" He questioned. The girl held out her hand and Darry shook it.
"Baby's the name."
"Baby?" Asked Darry.
"Well if your gonna call me that at least take me out first." She laughed at her own joke and so did the rest of the gang along with some 'damns' and 'ohhhs'.
"No but really, I'm Baby. Aka the thieving cunt aka aka 'dumb greaser bitch'." She smiled and turned around ready to leave again. But Darry wouldn't let go of her. Soda pop spoke up this time.
"How come we've never seen you around here before?" Baby spun around, rolled her eyes and answered.
"Look, I didn't seek refuge in here to be interrogated. I feel like I'm in the cooler with this lug attached to my arm like handcuffs." Darry rolled his eyes and let go.
"But if you must know, I hide in the forrest and empty lots around town. I've been on the run since I was 13." The gang stared and listened to her story. She stared right back, unafraid.
"What were you running from?" Pony boy asked while lighting cigarette. Baby sighed and sat down again.
"Well do you want to straight forward answer or the philosophical answer." She was obviously well educated if she was saying all these big words.
"Both." Pony boy answered taking a drag.
"Well," Baby started "most of the time I'm running from the fuzz, my parents, or anyone who also wants to beat me. But you could also say I'm running from life. I'm running from responsibilities, cares, friends, boyfriends..." She trailed off. Some of the boys in the gang looked hopeful when she said boyfriend. Dally smirked and spoke.
"Baby, you know it's dangerous stealing straight from a Socs pocket." He leaned against the wall. He was obviously attracted to her. Baby stood up with an eyebrow cocked and arms crossed.
"Why do you think I do it? It's fun. I live for the adrenaline rush. I breath in they're excitement when they think I'm hitting on them. I pull them to an alley," Baby was stepping closer and closer to Dally with each sentence.
"They think they are getting lucky. But I just press up against them," When she said this she was pressed against Dally. She was only 5'4" so the height difference was a lot. She tilted her head back to look up at him. She took the neck of his shirt in her hand and pulled his face towards his. Dally looked very pleased with himself. They're faces were inches apart. The whole gang said nothing. Barely breathing. Dally's hand was about to grab her neck to kiss her but she quickly slipped her hand into his front pocket and ducked out of the way of his hand. She stepped in front and revealed Dallys black leather wallet. She bowed as the gang clapped and 'wowed'.
"Would you look at the time," Baby glanced down at her wrist pretending their was a watch there. "I must get going." She reached in grabbed two dollars from the wallet and handed it to Dally.
"Thanks for being a good sport." She patted his chest and walked out the door into the sunset. Dally was stunned. No words would come out of his mouth. The gang started to laugh at his speechlessness.
"Wow Dally, you really know how to hookem'" Two-bit jeered as he fell over laughing. Dallys face was angry red, but still the gang wouldn't stop laughing. Steve stood up and smacked Dally on the back,
"That tiny thing got some tricks up her sleeve. Hope you didn't fall for her." Steve said through chuckles as he waltzed into the kitchen. Dally just smacked Two-Bit on the side of the head before he took a spot on the couch, crossed his arms and pouted.
"It wasn't that good..." Dally mumbled.
