"Brandy, there's something I have to tell you." My grandma easily spoke over the soft music playing out of the car's speakers

"What's wrong?" I watched as we drove by fields of wheat, turning into one big blur of gold

Stay Gold, Ponyboy,   I mentally quoted in my head, making myself smile

"Nothing's wrong with me, it's just while you were gone, there was some changes around the house."

"Like what?" She really wasn't making any sense to me

"Well, I needed a little extra help, it was hard without you around. And my friend, her daughter passed away, leaving the son all by himself. My friend's in a nursing home, and I offered to help."

"What do you mean?"

"I've taken in my friends grandson, he's been living at the house for the past five months."

"Are you serious?"

"Completely." My grandma kept her eyes on the road the whole time, not looking at me at all

"Is he gonna leave, now that I'm coming home?"

"He's got nowhere else to go, Brandy, he hasn't got family besides his grandma, he's like you."

"But-"

"Now, I know you got a hard time trusting people, especially men. But this boy is very kind , and well tempered. His mama raised him well."

"What's his name?"

"Harry."
