The sun shone brightly and casted elongated shadows on the ground. The family had a light breakfast before resuming the final touches in tidying up their house. It was a rush to move out from Daegu to Seoul. Yoorim had always been interested in learning about the arts and Seoul National University (SNU) offered the perfect modules that she wanted to learn.
After her grandfather's death, there was no more responsibilities left for Mr and Mrs Im. Therefore, they decided to move to Seoul only when Yoorim's application was successful. Although she would be a few steps late from other students enrolling in that major, Yoorim believed her passion for the arts would make up for it.
"Thank goodness you get to enrol into SNU. I get to explore my stay here in Seoul, visit Han River, go around shopping. Hmm, what else?"giggled Mrs Im as she washed the dishes.
Yoorim let out a small smile and shook her head in disbelief, wiping the plates and bowls clean with a dry cloth. Several knocks planted on the door just then, stopping Yoorim from helping her mother out. They had just moved in so the door bell was yet to be replaced. Her eyebrows furrowed upon an unexpected guest in the morning. "I'll go and check,"Yoorim placed the cutleries gently on the counter.
She peeked at the peephole. A young man casually dressed stood in front. Yoorim estimated him to be around her age but as far as she knew, her neighbours were both elderly couples. Reluctantly, she unlocked the door and opened it slightly, revealing only half of her face to the stranger. Her breath hitched when their eyes interlocked. He tilted his head and flashed a warm smile at her. "Good morning! I'm Suho, from SNU. Is this where a female transferee named Im Yoorim lives?"
Yoorim blinked her eyes blankly at him. How does he know my name and address? She nodded her head reluctantly, not yet comfortable to welcome him. "Great! I'm the representative sent by SNU to help Yoorim out especially in preparing for school. I believe she had received a letter."
"Yoorim-ah, who is it?"Mr Im sauntered to the door after coming out from the washroom. She whipped her head to him and stammered. She couldn't quite understand what was going on in the morning. "A-Appa, the g-guest says he's from my school."
Mr Im creased his forehead. He opened the door wide and was greeted by a polite bow from him. "Good morning sir! My name is Suho. I'm a classmate of Im Yoorim. Is she here?"
Mr Im exchanged gazes with his daughter. "This is Yoorim, my daughter." Suho followed his trail of gaze, his eyes landing on the woman he spoke to right from the start. His eyes beamed crescents by the relief thought of finally meeting her. Yoorim bowed her head slightly and scooted to the corner, finally having the perfect view to scrutinise him.
She scanned him from head to toe, afterwards her gaze fixated on his face. He was neatly dressed in a white polo tee tucked in khaki brown ankle pants, accentuating his slim yet healthy body. His hair was parted in loose ruffled strands, giving dark volumes. Her mouth parted when she took notice of his clean porcelain skin, thick eyebrows, large glistening eyes, an angled nose and thin small lips. How can someone be so perfect? Is this how angels look like?
"Aigoo, where are my manners?"Mr Im let out a laugh. "Please come in. We just moved in so our house looks a bit messy right now. I hope you don't mind."
"Oh no no, it's okay. I understand. Thank you for inviting me in,"Suho removed his shoes and bowed his head slightly at Yoorim as he walked past. She hung her head low for looking so sloppy in front of an attractive man whom would be her classmate soon.
As the men settled down at the living room, Yoorim shuffled her feet in quick succession back to the kitchen, transferring the news to her mother. "Eomma, a guy named Suho said he's my classmate. Appa is with him at the living room."
