They made their way towards the entrance of The Slash. The Slash was an illegal underground fighting club owned by one of Matt's friends. Matt Stewart has been Riley's best friend since diapers and the girls' and the twins' close friend also. He was away at his uncle's for two weeks and that's why he wasn't here with them.
The fighters in The Slash were the most violent, vicious guys in New York. There were no rules during the matches, the only two ways to lose were to either faint or give up. No one considered the latter one as an option. Anyone could bid on these fights and win or lose considerable amount of money. That's exactly why Blaze, Riley, Derek, Chris, Roxy and the girl were there tonight. They were going to bid on one of the fighters and hope to win some money in order to then buy some booze and cigarettes to take at the lake that weekend.
When they entered the club, strong smell of alcohol and sweat hit them.
In the middle of the huge space, was a ring where the fights took place. People were scattered all around the ring: chatting, dancing, encouraging the fighters...
There was a bar in the furthest corner on the left, surrounded by tables. In the right corner, there was a staircase leading to a booth were an announcer sat.
The group went over to the bar and took their seats around one of the tables. Riley went to get some drinks.
"Welcome pimps and hoes! Are you ready for some mind-blowing action tonight?!" The announcer's voice was heard through the speakers.
The crowd roared.
"Okay! The first match is between The Lion and The Blade!!! Make your biddings! The fight is about to start!"
"The Lion - heads, The Blade - tails. You ready?" Blaze asked.
"Yup, hit us with your best shot." Chris answered, while wrapping his arm around Roxy's shoulders.
Chris Nolan and Roxy Shay had been going out since their freshmen year and wanted to go to college together. They were kind of created for each other. While he was loud and outgoing, she was shy and reserved. They filled each other out.
"Kay." Blaze flipped the coin. It landed on her hand after a couple of seconds. "Heads. Looks like we're bidding on The Lion."
"Give me the money, I'll go." Chris held out his hand. Blaze gave him their barely-scraped-together hundred bucks. If they won, the money would be doubled and they would win another hundred.
While Derek left, Riley returned with their drinks and sat down. "Woah, some dudes at the bar were saying that Ace will be fighting today. We have to bid on him!"
"Ace? We totally have to!" Blaze exclaimed.
"So he really is back? Like for good?" Derek questioned.
"Am I the only one who doesn't know who Ace is?" Roxy asked.
"I didn't. Only found out this morning." The girl answered and gave Roxy a high-five.
"Well you two obviously live under the fucking rock, than." Blaze told them. "Ace is one of the hottest, baddest, most dangerous guys in town." She leaned in closer towards the table, "Rumor has it, he fucked more girls than you can count. He was in Detroit for the last three years, now he's back, but no one knows why. Some say it's for 'unfinished business', some say he just got bored."
"Wait, how old is he?" Roxy asked her.
"Twenty two." Riley answered for Blaze.
"He's so young."
