The evening autumn air nips my face and my grip grows tighter around my warm coffee. My boots crunch the leaves below me on the cracked concrete as I walk down to the local music store, Midnight Red. I don't know the point of the name but they do have some of the best music, even if I've only been there once. The city isn't that busy at the moment, mostly because everyone's at work, which I am thankful for.
I open the door and the filmier ding of the bells turns the workers head, but she quickly ignored me and went back to flipping through her magazine and smacking her gum obnoxiously loud. I stride over the back, finding some of my favorite bands; old and new. Looking through the mass amount of CD's and records, my eyes dart to a band I've never heard of. I walk over the listening booth, putting the record into the player. I instantly like the song, tapping my feet along with the beat as It continues.
I must of spent hours in the tiny store listening to my favorites because when I checked the time, it was half past nine. I usually don't stay out this late alone, especially in this part of the city. I didn't bring my car. mostly because the store is almost two blocks away from my home.
I put the record pack into it's large slip and set it back into the case and walk out into the crisp air of the night. I clutch my empty coffee cup and wrap the jacket tighter around my skin. I take a left, walking down and ally I've always taken to get to my apartment. I make another sharp left, bumping into something hard. I stumble backwards a little, not noticing how fast I was walking. When I look up, a tall figure is staring intensely into my eyes. He held a trash bag in his hands and I was suspecting he was going to throw it out into the bin right behind him. The dim street lights are enough to light up his face to notice a lip ring and an eyebrow piercing. Tattoos covered his arms, and some poking up from the color of his white t-shirt. His jaw was tense and tight as his eyes scanned up and down my body.
I grew incredibly uncomfortable and started walking backwards slowly, but he did not move. I walked around him, picking up pace with every step. I abruptly stopped when a pair of strong hands gripped my waist and turned me around to face the man whom I saw just seconds ago. I down at my feet, not letting him see the fear in my eyes. He lifts my chin up, forcing me to look at him. He had a smirk on his face and licked his lips. He backed me up against the wall and winced because of the amount of force he put on me. His hands intertwined with mine and I was completely frozen. I couldn't run because of our position and his height was towering over me by a great amount. I started to open my mouth, but a hand immediately covered it.
"Scream and you'll never see daylight again." His voice was deep and husky and sent chills up my spine. He removed his hand from my mouth and intertwined it with mine again.
"W-what do you want from me?" I finally stammer out the words and his grip gets stronger, sliding my hands up over my head. My breathe hitches in my throat and I can hear my heart beating in my ears.
I wait for what seems like hours and all he seems to do is stare into my eyes, almost like he's searching for something.
His hands remove themselves from mine and he backs away. I am shocked by his sudden actions, mainly because I was expecting him to hold me hostage and rape me. I move off of the wall and wonder around him, finding the sidewalk again. I start walking, rather quickly this time, when I hear his words fill my ears.
"I will find you again and that time, you won't leave." He puts his back towards me and walks into the darkness. His figure fades and I can breathe once again. Confused at his words, I shake my head and walk down to my apartment building.
I unlock my door and stride in, taking my shoes off in the process. I wonder of the bedroom and slip out of my work attire into something more comfortable. I crawl under the larger duvet, wrapping the thick material around my body, sleeping filling every bone, but something forces my sense to wake up.
It's almost two in the morning and I still haven't slept. The incident with the man in the ally has kept me from my slumber. I can't keep the imagines and his voice out of my head. Every time I close my eyes, he's there. He barley did anything to me, but It defiantly frightened me enough to not sleep. I ponder against his last few words he said to me, unsure of what he meant. I would not let him find me again, especially in the dark of the night.
I shake my head to get ride of the thoughts in my head and roll over, facing the window that shows the city sky line. My eyes grow heavy and sleep finally pulls me under it's warm embrace.
