Dedicated to Tanyadiva: Happy Birthday!
Chapter 4
The drive to the party was short, and soon we pulled up to a cheerleader’s beach house. I could hear the loud thumping vibrating all around us, and the car shook with the beat. I’m kinda surprised no one called the cops yet, you know?
I looked at Aiden, who was looking at me with a small grin.
“What?” I asked him, self-conscious and flattered at the same time.
“You are so beautiful, you know that?” he told me with a twinkle in his deep eyes.
I smirked at him and said, “You better not be complimenting me because you want to get laid tonight.”
Aiden widened his eyes and then he started laughing. His laugh was contagious and it ended up with me laughing as well. Have I told you that his laugh was amazing too? I might be biased, but he has the looks of a rugged Chace Crawford, a body that can best Taylor Lautner any day, and a laugh that is so husky yet so warm that I want to melt into tiny butter pieces.
Aiden’s arms went around my shoulders and he pulled be past my seat and into his chest. He strokes my hair and said, “Just because I’m a guy, I need an ulterior motive to compliment you?”
I kiss his warm and defined chest and said, “Yeah, I know, I had sucky boyfriends in the past.”
He chuckled and kisses my head, then said, “It’s a good thing I came along then.”
I leaned away to look at his face and said, “Yeah, it’s a good thing you did.”
Although I said that, I couldn’t help but wonder how long he’s going to stay. We’re seniors now, and this year might be the last year we will ever see each other. Last time I checked, high school sweethearts are just that. High school. Nothing else. Both couples who end up together meet in college or at their work place. That doubt clouded my mind and I felt my heart break. I love Aiden with all my heart. But does he love me enough to stay?
He’s going to end up playing football in college, maybe end up with a sports medicine degree, and probably play pro-ball for some team. With all this football going on, he’s going to forget me.
As much as I hate to admit it, but I’m not as strong as most people think I am. I said goodbye to my dad, the man who taught be football, and I might say goodbye to Aiden, the guy who shows me why I should love football. I wish this would all stop. I wish time would stop, and allow me to be in Aiden’s arms forever, but I know that’s impossible.
“Alex?” Aiden asked me gently and I broke from my anguish thoughts.
“Yeah?” I look at him, a little dazed.
“What’s on your mind, my beautiful receiver?” he asked me, a worried look on his face.
I sighed and said, “Nothing, Aiden. I’m just thinking about my future.”
Aiden captured my gaze and said, “You were worrying over or not you and I will end up together with the whole football thing, right?
I stayed quiet, and he sighed, then cup my face in his callused hands. He tilted it so I can looked at him and what I saw there amazed me.
“Alex, no matter what happens, what our future might takes us, I will always love you. No one can compare to you, ever. I promise. You have my heart in your hands, and you can do whatever you want with it. Only you have the power to make me laugh, cry, and everything that comes with our relationship. Even if you don’t end up in football, which I doubt, you will always be my girl. Because not matter, what I’m going to fight for us, Alex. Please remember that,” he confessed and buried his face into my hair.
