Fireworks

Another villain has been defeated by the Ninja. Well, villains since it started off with Morro, then the ghost army, and ended with the Preeminent. Like always, the people of Ninjago are postponing cleaning up the town by celebrating. Since the celebration is at Styx, there's nothing too fancy, however, there are fireworks. Who doesn't love fireworks though? Well, there's a certain blond ninja that isn't enjoying them as much as everyone else, and said person's hotheaded boyfriend has taken notice to it. While the rest of the Ninja team went to enjoy the fireworks together, Kai and Lloyd went to go enjoy the fireworks by the water. It was meant to be a date since Lloyd was possessed by Morro for so long and Kai wanted to spend time with him, but it was obvious that Lloyd's thoughts were elsewhere. There has been an awkward silence between them ever since the fireworks started. "Hey Lloyd, are you feeling alright?" Kai worriedly asked. "Huh? Oh yeah, I feel fine." He answered as if he was knocked out of a trance. Kai didn't want to pester him, but the obvious lie has him concerned. What happened to him while he was possessed? "Are you sure? You're being more distant than usual." Kai tried again. Still not meeting Kai's eyes, he replied, "Not really. I just... I just don't understand why all these bad things keep happening to me." Tears started welling up in his eyes. Quickly thinking, Kai wrapped his arms around Lloyd, embracing him. Lloyd gladly accepted the comforting gesture. "You know you can talk to me right? My life isn't that peachy either." Lloyd pulled back from the embrace wiping his eyes. "I know." He sniffled. "I'm just so used to handling things like this alone." He continued. "Well you're not alone. Not as long as I'm here." Kai said sympathetically. "Thanks Kai." "No problem Greenie." For once, the nickname made Lloyd crack a smile. "So, do you want to tell me what's wrong? I won't make you talk about it if you don't want to, but I'm sure it would make you feel better if you did." Kai asked. Lloyd's smile fell a bit. "Yeah, I probably should." Kai grabbed Lloyd's hand and held it encouragingly. "I won't rush you. Take as long as you need." "Well it's a little because I lost my dad, but it's more than that." Kai stayed silent. "I mean it mostly concerns my past." Lloyd continued. "After my mom left me at Darkley's, I was so confused about what was going on. I thought that I did something wrong. Why else would my father leave one night and soon after, my mom leaves me? At the time I didn't understand what had happened, and no one felt the need to explain anything to me. The two people I loved and trusted the most abandoned me. They were gone from my life, and I was forced to accept that. Things only got worse by being at Darkley's. Everyone hated me without reason, even the teachers didn't like me. I was bullied by nearly every student there, and there were a couple of times where I had gotten beat up." Kai's grip tightened on Lloyd's hand. "It was nothing bad though, just some bruises, a bloody nose, and only once my wrist was sprained." Lloyd assured. Kai nodded and his grip loosened. "I'd say the worst time of my life was after I got kicked out of school. No one showed up to get me, so I had to live on the streets for a bit. I had a never ending cold since I had nothing to treat it with, and because it got cold during the night and all I had was the clothes I was wearing when I left. I'm ashamed to admit I had to steal food most days, but I wanted to survive. Then, I thought maybe if I acted evil I could maybe catch my father's or my mother's attention. The next day, I went to try out that plan and I met you guys. I was so hopeful that you guys would take notice to the fact that I was a kid living on the streets alone, but you guys hung me on a pole instead." Kai nervously scratched the back of his head. "Honestly, we should have. Now that you bring it up, I can't believe we kept leaving you out there like that. We knew you were Sensei's nephew, but he never said that your mother abandoned you. Yet, it seems like he did know since he finally decided to keep you with us and never attempted to contact your mother." Lloyd shrugged. "I honestly don't know, and I'd rather not know. But anyways, after the Serpentine caught me spying on them at the slither pit thing, I thought I was going to die. They never really gave me anything to eat or drink much and when they did I had to beg for it. I don't know how I even survived like that, but I did. Pythor was the worst part of it. He gloated every time he came back with a fang blade, and if he got bored his favorite thing was to taunt me. Then my dad saved me along with you guys, and you know how it goes from there." "What about when you were possessed by Morro?" Lloyd let out a small laugh. "That honestly wasn't terrible. Sure he taunted me a bit, but it didn't bother me all that much. If anything, it was torture for him trying to stay in control of my body." "Oh. But still Lloyd, I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. I had no idea. I mean you were just a kid, and no one should have to go through that." "I didn't mean to make our date a pity party. I know there are people who have it worse than me, but I've kept all this to myself and it's been destroying me on the inside." "And how do you feel now that you've gotten it all out?" Kai asked curiously. Lloyd smiled. "Like a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulders." "I told you that you would feel better." Kai teased. "Well I'm glad you were right, for once." Lloyd retorted. Kai playfully acted offended. Lloyd giggled. "But I love you anyways." "I love you to Greenie." Kai leaned down and gave Lloyd a short, but loving kiss. "So, shall we get back to our date?" Kai asked. "Gladly." Lloyd laid his head on Kai's shoulder. Finally, they watched the fireworks, enjoying their long-awaited moment.

A/N: Ok so to be clear, this takes place after 'Posssession' and I made up my own version of Lloyd's past. Sorry if it seems to rushed or if they are OOC. But thanks for reading, and if you have any requests please say so.
